RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / draft door stuck open
« on: March 04, 2014, 05:32:34 PM »
So the other day I come find my stove boiled over....sees the flap stuck open..was concerned because the stove was just put in service in late oct. 2013....so looked at the selonoid and it was free of rust and has been oiled a couple times since I started. Contacted Graig at Ridgewood and he said some of the stoves have done that and he felt the door needed a little more weight. They are working on a fix that will most likely  be a small plate you bolt to the door.

I went ahead and welded a small piece of threaded rod to the bottom of the door and it has been fine since then. My thought was if it needed more I could just thread on a couple of nuts to get the weight right.  Craig even sent me another batch of water treatment since I lost about half my water....any way not putting down the stove just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who might have same issue. You should always have a spare selonoid on hand because they can go bad but in this case it wasnt.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / toasty but.....
« on: December 12, 2013, 11:52:11 AM »
Iset the t stat in my home to 74 and it heats it to that but it must be cooling down real quickly.....it runs about every 10 mins..stops for 10 then starts back up....Now at night ill cut it back to 65 and it wont come on for a couple of hours. house was built in 1901  and has new windows but im guessing the insulation isnt up to par? other than that its making plenty of hot water ad keeping my uninsulated pole barn at 50.  was 08 degrees outside this morning.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / ridgewood problem quick fix
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:05:00 AM »
Since there isnt a ridgewood  dedicated thread on here Ill post this here. The other night I woke up house was cool furnace blower(forced air) was blowing cool air out of the vents. of course it was 2 am. :bash:..went out to the stove and temp was 100 degrees with the flap closed...thought the selonoid might have went bad but geez its only a week old....got to looking and saw a wire had slipped off the connector...put it back on and it slipped on way to easy so i used a pair of plires and crimped it down a bit then put it back on checked the other wire and it was same way so I fixed it to. plugged stove back in and all is well again. Really wish Id got one of these years ago. Thanks again to all who have answered questions along the way hope this helps someone down the line. chuck

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / OWB inside my pole barn...?
« on: August 14, 2013, 08:22:56 AM »
So in checking with my zoning dept.  I dont have enough property to instal an OWB....need two acres I only have one. So I was thinking of uttinit it inside my pole barn which I plan to heat also.  there is an exsisting block chimminy where my wood burning furnace is now and thought about tying into it. (removing the wood burning stove) the only concern I have is the height of the chimmney..its a 2 story barn so Id guess the chimmney height is 25 feet in total...so creasote would build up in the chimmney and I would guess Id have to clean it more often. the flue from the OWB would have a couple of turns to get into the chimmney so I dont think it would rain back into the OWB.....what say you folks? thanks in advance

Electronics / Yet another t stat question
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:09:03 AM »
Hello all. been reading and thought I knew how to hook up my tsat but its not working so heres the scoop....
old thermostat is a hunter brand ...two wires that go to rudd silhouette 2 gas furnace...no ac .  the wires are connected to terminals R  & W  no other terminals on old t stat.  so I ran a new 4 wire from old t stat to furnace.

I hooked up a jumper from R on old t stat to R on new one Honeywell  RTH 11B  I hooked up the green from the furnace terminal to the W on the new T Stat.....with new tstat off ran a cycle with old t stat and it works fine.

turned old one down all the way and waited  few mins and tried new tstat......nothing......any ideas? thank you in advance. chuck

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Owb in my pole barn?
« on: October 26, 2012, 08:32:29 AM »
Hello everyone....I am considering an owb i live in ne ohio and due to zoning regulations i dont have enough land..to put one out side. My question is can i put it (a gasser modle )in my pole barn were my woodburner is now and run the flue up the exsisting chimmy which is about 45
feet high..two story pole barn.  Or would the exhaust not be hot enough to escape and cause condensation problems?   Or should i look at a conventional owb for same instalation. Thanks in advance.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / how to best spend $5000
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:15:24 PM »
So I have 5  grand to spend on an outdoor wood boiler not including the pipe and exchangers but will get that as I go along. After all my reading I would like a gasification unit mainly for the fact I would burn less wood but they all seem out of my range. any suggestions?
