General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Plate exchangers
« on: January 05, 2013, 06:50:35 AM »
I have a 10 plate exchanger I used to heat my water going into the water heater. I have discovered it is full of lime.  I have been told that the 10 plate is to restrictive for use in the loop. Question...what size do most people on here use ? AND...has anyone ever had there Water to air heat exchangers in there furnace lime up??  I just wonder if cycling a CLR mix or something like that through the exchangers would be a good idea once a year ??

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / pluged heat exchanger
« on: December 21, 2012, 04:41:00 AM »
I have a 10 plate heat exchanger for use on my water heater. Is it possible for the exchanger to plug up or cause enough restriction to keep the heat coil on my furnace, ( whih is the next thing the water passes )  to not be able to reach temp ???  I am only getting about 90 degree air out of the redgester.  The other Heat exchanger / Furnace for my addition which is teed into the water line with ball valves to adjust the flow from the boiler. it is First in the line,  It is nice and warm out there.

and I get almost a 40 degree temp drop accross the coil i think isnt getting enough water ??  it just acts like to me there isn't enought water passing through that one coil ?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Air Temp at Register
« on: November 25, 2012, 06:53:32 AM »
Just wondering what you guys are getting for an air temp reading at your register. I have two heat exchangers/Furnaces...2 separate duct runs, ( 2 totaly seperate systems ) with the first one being " T d" into the line with ball Valves to adjust the flow to the first exchanger. I am trying to Balance both units and about the best I can get is 95 degrees?(Air Temperature) Boiler temp is set at 170....with a 10 degree diff...Boiler is set at about 80 feet From the house and I use a 3 speed Taco pump set on the second speed.

Doesn't work to bad but the original house take a lot longer to reach temp than the Addition does, But the addition is about 1/2 the size of the original house.
Just wondering....

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / how much heat loss
« on: January 01, 2012, 06:49:29 AM »
My OWB is 80 feet from my house, I used insulated 1 in. pex.wrapped in the big plastic pipe about 24 feet under ground. About half way to the house it goes into the garage where it comes up through the floor where it goes to the pump, then back into the ground where it goes to the house. When the water returns it again enters the garage and goes up about 9 feet to a coil that I can heat my shop with if I desire. My question is...how much heat loss is acceptable from the boiler to the house ??  I bought a thermometer with probes and it is about 10 degrees less than the thermometer at the stove. I have the probes in the house just as it enters the first heat exchanger.

Wood Boiler USA, LLC / Temperature setting

What does wood boiler recommend setting the temperature that the blower kicks off ???  And what do you recommend the differential be set at. There has been a lot of discussions at times about that and most people say to ask the manufacture ??

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / OWB chemical testing
« on: November 27, 2011, 05:17:19 AM »
I am still confused on the boiler chemical treatment. I use a chemical called NU-CAL B-20 , Reading here on this site I need to get some test strips and if I understand correct the Nitrite level should be between 600 and 1200 PPM  ???  Is this right ???  and if this is right there is no need to check the Ph Level ??

Where can you buy these test strips ??
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Plumbing / Leaking water to Air heat exchanger
« on: November 25, 2011, 03:39:48 PM »
I just installed an OWB system in my house. I purchased HAL  water to air heat exchangers, they are all Aluminum, there is no copper in these.  I noticed last night water dripping from my Air handler and upon inspection I found the exchanger leaking. Now I can't see where it is leaking and I have now removed it and plan to get some fittings to test it to see where it is leaking. This is a brand new piece and I didn't do anything during the installation to damage it. It worked good for about a week then the leak started.

Has anyone had an experience like this with the same type or brand ???
