I have the earth mt. man 500 and love it!!! I did purchase the 3 wrap they sell and at the time they didn't manufacture it. I would stay clear of any 3 wrap, 5 wrap, or any wrap insulated underground pex because I replaced my setup with LOGSTOR and what a difference,  it was like super charging my system. I stand fully behind earth and their products but don't go cheap on the underground pex, my replacement project cost me around $3000. bucks and LOGSTOR is the way to go on any OWF you decide to go with. The earth outdoor wood furnaces in my opinion are the best bang for your buck,  there built like tank and simple to operate !!! Their costumer service in my opinion was excellent. Every time I needed assistance they were there for me and their warranty is a 25 year better then most. Hope this helps you out and this is a grate website for info and knowledge !!! A lot of grate people on here !!!

I have the mt. man 500 and love it, it definitely does the job!!! Just don't go cheap on the underground pex like I did because I had to replace it and it was costly. I installed LOGSTOR as my replacement and WOW what a difference!!! This is a great site for info and to learn from.

Do research, most of us wood burners who have a furnace will tell you that the furnace they have is the best, it's what you prefer. I love my Earth Mt. Man 500, it's simple and easy to use and maintain!!! Bottom line is don't go cheap on the underground pex like I did because I replaced it and it cost me a lot of money and headache's!!! Whichever OWF you decide to go with I would install LOGSTOR, once I replaced my setup what a difference!!!

My guess is when I backfilled the line I didn't use sand or screenings and a couple rocks punctured the outer case. The soil where I live is shale and rocky.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / major problem solved!!!
« on: November 08, 2014, 10:53:18 AM »
Had a major problem and finally got it fixed. Replaced the crappy 3 wrap underground pipe I purchased and replaced it with logstor, what a major difference !!! The repair job was expensive, had to rip out 2 sections of sidewalk, drain the furnace, rent a jackhammer, backhoe, and a forklift to pick up the furnace, dug up 75 ft. ditch to remove the crappy 3 wrap pipe, bought 6 ton of screening in witch I put a 8 inch layer down first, installed the new logstor and covered that with about 8 inches of screening. The total repair cost me around $2000. bucks !!! When I removed the 3 wrap it was waterlogged, the insulation crumbled apart like dry leaves. I new I had a major problem last winter when the furnace ran constant and when it did snow I always had a 75 ft. clear path where the 3 wrap pipe was installed and I had it buried 3 ft. deep. My neighbor's though I shoveled a path out to the furnace, that's how much heat I was losing. This logstor pipe is amazing, the furnace is fired up and up to temp at 180, no leaks. They shouldn't even sell that 3 wrap crap !!! I hope other people don't make the same mistake I did, buy logstor!

Earth Outdoor Wood Furnaces / Re: Smoke during burn cycle?
« on: November 19, 2013, 11:23:36 AM »
Hope this helps... I have a Earth Mountain Man 500 and yes it smokes like a locamotive until you get a good coal, ash bed going. I've tried the air flow restriction and found out it operates better and more efficient with the tear drop damper wide open! The more air it gets with a good coal bed of 5 to 6 inch chunky and halfway through the burn cycle I put in 2 mabe 3 nice pieces to keep up with the coal bed and it only smokes a little on the restart and when it shuts down. Once you get the routine of keeping a good coal bed going things should clear up. I have mine set at 180 with a 15 degree difference. During the day today and yesterday my burn cycles are around an hour and idle times are around 5 hours. I keep the load around 10 inches from the loading door so air gets under my grates and throughout the firebox. When she fires up a little smoke and 20 mins. later its like a clear vaper until she shuts down. The firebox is always clean. Happy burning and hope this helps out.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Emotion of wood burning

:post:!!! Besides the metal roof I had installed on my home the earth outdoor furnace was by far the best investment as a home owner! The fear of how heat the home weather its oil or electric was a true frustration and agony! My father always wanted a outdoor furnace for many years and god rest his soul that's how I realised this is the only way to go and I haven't regret one moment of the decision on how to heat my home and family! This website made the whole process a sweet success and very enjoyable learning process! Thanks to all involved and happy burning!!!

Hey Flyfishjt I love my earth mountain man 500!!! It's easy to maintain and easy to operate. From day one had no problems with the operation thanks to this website and everyone involved. And slimjim no problems here, I clean chimney's and one job I came across the vacu-stack chimney cap and wondered if anyone ever used one on a OWF. I currently use chimney cap from tractor supply and I think it works grate. HAPPY BURNING FELLOW OWB'ERS!!!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / question on pump settings
« on: August 23, 2013, 09:51:22 AM »
Since my install last November I've been running my furnace at 185 high with a 20 degree difference. The pumps are both set on high. Can the pumps be switched on low or medium to save wood in the non heating months or can they be turned off until DHW is needed.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: EPA Approved vs Older style
« on: June 13, 2013, 07:26:14 PM »
I live in Pennsylvania and I know people with old and people with EPA phase 2. I've herd more complaints about the EPA phase 2 units, a lot of maintenance, hard to keep going, very time consuming. Not many complaints and the old conventional style. Thats why I went old school. In many states that require EPA phase 2 units only, look into a unit that has grates and a ash pan and purchase it as a outdoor coal furnace if you decide to go old style. No EPA emissions on outdoor coal burners in many states also if the btu's are 350,000 or more the also makes them legal. I learned this on Shaver's web site and then purchased a earth outdoor furnace and its easy to maintain and operate.
