WOOD CHIPS IN A HARDY H5
« on: September 15, 2016, 06:51:39 PM »

I have a Hardy H5 OWF I have been getting my firewood from a site that the tree trimmers that trim for my job dumps there debris. There is a ton of wood chips out there as well. I was wondering has anyone every tried to burn them in a normal OWF with a load of wood in the bottom and maybe a grate above the wood that you could take in and out the door?

They might burn but I would bet that if they are stored on the ground it will be hard and smoke a lot.

The biggest problem is going to be getting them dry. Probably most tree trimmers are chipping green wood of questionable variety and dumping them in piles which will have little aeration so little drying. Wet chips will, as mentioned, smoke a lot and give off very little heat.
