I know silver maple isn't great wood but I got a pickup load of it. What does it burn like?  Does it make coals? Burn fast I guess???

Have never burned any myself, don’t really burn a lot of maple anyways, mostly ash, elm, wild cherry and locust.

Burn it up not a ton of BTUs or much of a coal bed, but worth burning

Its decent wood, not as good as oak or hard maple, but better then aspen or most of your pine/spruce.

Mostly what I burn. I think it burns o.k. If it was cut green seems to be a better burn once it dries then cutting it when it has died or is dying on the tree. splits easy and does have a coal bed.

It doesn't last long, but the price is right and it still makes fire.

If it's free then it is good wood. Hard to beat free wood.

If it has to be split it will take you longer to split than it does to burn imho :)

I cut and hauled a couple loads about 10 years ago of large blocks and ended up loading them back up in the truck and rolling them into a washout in the field.

Ahh, silver maple also known just as ole soft maple. Have burned some of it, don’t let it get too dry, makes great camp fire wood especially if your selling it by the bundle.

Your right.  Just took a bunch to my mom who has been camping at local state park with my sister and family for Halloween week and it dries super quick i noticed and doesn't smoke hardly. Good for camp fire.
