Just finished plumbing the OWF this afternoon and my manual shows lower are return and upper for supply. Sure hope this is correct because I struggled enough with that dang pipe and don't feel like changing it now.

Slim - I am not doubting the fact that Logstor pipe is strong as it was a brute to handle, but I was not going to take a gamble with my investment and buried my Logstor surrounded in a nice bed of screened sand. Probably close to 8-10 inches all around it. I had some rocks when I dug the trench.

It's a high limit switch... When the boiler over heats it acts as a disconnect til the boiler cools back down to the 130-140 range..
Didn't they put a fan speed controller on them for a while? I think they just used a ceiling fan speed control.
Maybe years ago... Not sure
It does look like a ceiling fan control and the furnace is 4 years old (so I'm told)

Hey Muskoka, that's a nice touch. I also purchased a BL but have not yet had time to get it set up.
Question 1 - did yours come with the pump on it or did you get it after to suit your requirements?
Question 2 - does it smoke much?

HeatMaster / mf 5000 control question
« on: October 26, 2013, 04:54:52 PM »
I am trying to help my aunt with her MF 5000 and am curious what the rheostat beside the Ranco controller does. I looked at the owners manual online as she can't find hers but I didn't see anything about it.

I'm also trying to decide on my location but curious how many installed there furnace with the door facing into the prevailing wind so the smoke blows into the furnace? Is it important or am I overthinking this?

At least with the smaller water capacity the new P&M, A/F wouldn't be as expensive - if needed.

Thanks Scott, great info. WoodMoJoes diagram almost seemed too easy. I had been given a quote for OWF with sidearm and mixing valve but I think I like this setup better.

Just so I understand this setup- with the plate exchanger, water is heated the one pass and is hot enough? Does the sidearm work the same or does the dhw in the watertank cycle? I ask because I know I have sediment in my hw tank and assume it will just plug up the sidearm. What is the most common setup?
