Shaver Furnace / For those with too much creosote in the chimney

Here is what I did a couple years ago. I trimmed the sheet metal around the chimney and slid this bad boy down over the chimney

I slid it clear down to rest on the water jacket. I shoved some rope gasket between the existing chimney and the double wall pipe. I then squirted some high temp silicone around it too. This was to keep anything from running down between the pipes.

I then resealed around the chimney and roof with high temp silicone.

At the end of the season i do get a little build up that I scrape out but I have never had it plug shut.

Beofre we would try jam a piece of wood or something under the latch when closing the door.

Here is what I did. I got a small piece of 1/8" thick steel and put it there.  To hold it in place, I used Hi-temp silicone as if it were glue and siliconed it i place.

It is now semi perminent but can be removed if needed.

You thickness of metal may vary.
