I'm trying to decide on a location for an OWB. I don't want to spend too much on underground piping if I don't have to, especially since I want to heat my detached garage. I was thinking of putting the furnace about 10' off of the back of the house if that isn't a problem. Any thoughts?

Just make sure the door of the boiler is pointed away from the house and you use a spark arrestor cap on the chimney. You may also want to check with the building codes.

Friend of mine did that and the whole back of his shed and some of the roof is discolored if that would bother you.

I would also call your insurance company.

i think i would want that chimney higher than roofline too.

My insurance company told me no less then 25'

i believe Yoda hit the nail on the head...ask your insurance company! each and every one could well have their own rules

get the mess away from your house and you will be happier a little bit extra on underground pipe is all its going to cost you and you will save that in isurance, house paint and stack material, not counting your wife cutting you off and making life hell
