for sure big round blocks last long but they won't burn as intense especially if the stove is natural draft.
i always wack em in half.i know they don't last as long but it don't take all day to get going
and it  ewasy to keep up to temp.instead of filling the stive up full just load smaller loads a little more often
  just my opinion

cut it and stack it standing up without splitting it.water will run out of it.a neighbor would do this with green poplar and it would dry out remarkably quick

i`m in southern quebec and we`ve been getting cold here since the first of december.by cold i mean -20 to -30.load the stove morning and night with mostly tamarack, spruce and butternut.saving the maple, ash, yellow, birch for for the big colds but with the cold we,ve been having its diggin in real good.like i said i load twice a day but at -30 i check it one extra time a day and add a chunk or two.att these temps no stove will heat on matches.!!!!

hey all.i was thinking about doing a vid and posting it on youtube.my first one using two tanks like this was long and not thought out.after completion i spent some time thinking about how to build it a little quicker and with less welds.i finally came up with a way for the 60 gallon in a 200 gallon oil tank.i will get that video soon and let you all know when it is posted.if you check wood boiler from junk on youtube it looks quite abit like it. to come soon.later

hey dave dj1.i built mine with a 200 gallon oil tank and a 60 gallon used hot water tank.found a way to do this with about 5 to six hours in time spent building start to finish.you have to cut down on the number of joints you weld from cuts.building another one now for a neighbor and am half finished in maybe three hours.
