Site Suggestions / update EPA units
« on: August 28, 2020, 11:58:37 AM »
The list of manufacturers with EPA approved units is considerably shorter post May 2020. Can the site be updated?

HeatMaster / New G models
« on: June 24, 2020, 04:39:34 AM »
Hi guys, thought I'd let you know the new  G series models are on Heatmaster's website now. I'm burning a G7000, it's been a sweet unit to operate.

Hardy / The future
« on: May 06, 2020, 05:09:42 AM »
Hi guys, question here.  I had a customer wanting to trade in a Hardy stove the other day. He wanted to swap because he said his dealer said Hardy was shutting down. I don't know if there is any truth to this, not sure if I want to take in a unit with no support in the future.
Have any of you heard anything?
If it's not true I'll remove this post to avoid spreading rumors.

Global Hydronics / Still running

Installed this old Global unit the other day. Many of them have bit the dust but this one is still chugging along.

HeatMaster / Spring rebate
« on: March 19, 2020, 05:11:59 AM »
Hi folks, thought I'd let you know Heatmaster is offering a rebate up to $4,000 on select models this spring. There's never been better pricing on a G series unit.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Creosote removal!
« on: January 29, 2020, 03:56:13 AM »
We replumbed and rewired a big MF20,000e yesterday. The float ball was stuck in the full position and they thought it was full of water. I found it completely dry. Tank discolored, fiberglass insulation melted in places. Thank goodness it was a round tank.
Anyway, wiring and plumbing was fried. But I've never seen such a clean firebox, probably on a 10 year+ old furnace. Not the preferred method of creosote removal but it worked! :)

WoodMaster / Bought by CB?
« on: January 13, 2020, 05:23:08 AM »

I'm surprised this has happened. Interesting to me because I was at one of their first dealer meetings as a kid in the late 90's. Central Boiler was competitor #1 for sure.

Plumbing / Wilo pumps
« on: December 06, 2019, 01:06:51 PM »
Just curious what you guys think of Wilo pumps. I've been using B&G and Grundfos. But I keep bumping into Wilos. We had trouble with some years ago and haven't considered them in quite a while. Thoughts?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Who's still in the game.
« on: December 05, 2019, 02:07:17 AM »
Ok, so we're nearing the 5 year mark after the EPA regs came in. Things have really gotten shuffled around with some manufacturers being gone or rethinking their lineup.
What changes do you know about?
For instance, it appears like Warren Walborn has pretty much dropped Hawken? I heard something about him being in the phillipines.
Anyway, what do you see in your OWB world?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / milk tank stove
« on: August 28, 2019, 04:06:22 AM »
This was a first for me. It's an old homemade stove made from a milk tank. It's been running for years, but moved to a new house.

HeatMaster / Stove picture

A couple of our guys hanging out in a C800 this week.
What a beast of a stove.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / worst leak story ever
« on: April 29, 2019, 04:38:41 AM »
We were telling stories at dealer meeting the other day.
One of the guys got a call from a fellow that was quite excited, had the worst leak you ever saw. Apparently the stove had a leak into the firebox, and an automatic fill. The stove filled the firebox completely full of water. Like completely....

It was installed in a garage I think.... Imagine the excitement when he opened the firebox door and the whole firebox load of water landed at his feet. ! Like a dam busted.
I'd pay for a video of that.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / 19 years never drained
« on: April 10, 2019, 04:50:56 AM »
Swapped out a leaking CB Classic a few weeks ago. Hunted for a bit to find a drain. The plug was still foamed over, never drained in something like 18 years. ! Nice red-brown water..
Anyway, have any of you guys run that long without draining and flushing? Or seen it done?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / How big is a 1500 gallon Aqua 2?
« on: March 11, 2019, 12:46:12 PM »
Had an inquiry comparing our units to an old 1500 gallon Aqua 2 that is leaking. Any ideas on BTU output, firebox volume?
Thanks for any info.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Guess this pump
« on: March 07, 2019, 04:27:22 AM »
My coworker went out to swap out the upper pump in this picture on a no heat call. Old house, one pipe system with 12 big  cast iron rads.
Any guesses on the model and cost of that medieval beast? Weighed 36 lbs. With some repiping he replaced it with an NRF-25. Went back to heating fine.
Crazy how times have changed.
