Equipment / Recommendation for a trimming saw
« on: April 23, 2016, 10:26:42 PM »
Want to pick up an additional trimming saw. Looking at an Echo CS310 or a Stihl MS170. Anyone have experience or history with these two saws?

Plumbing / Pumps in series
« on: March 27, 2016, 07:01:27 PM »
Just curious if anyone has ever installed pumps in series in the same loop, say one at the back of the boiler and one in the house? Will it increase flow gpm?

I am wondering about using 2 Grundfos Alpha pumps instead of one higher capacity pump which would be about 1/4 the energy used.

HeatMaster / Rated BTU output?
« on: February 11, 2016, 12:34:32 AM »
Got another question for you knowledgeable guys. If a boiler (any brand or model) is rated at X max output or X BTU output for 8 hours does that assume the firebox is full to accommodate that BTU output?

I have the G400 now so does it's rated output assume a full firebox to achieve it's rated spec sheet data? I would guess this is also with a good hardwood for the firewood?

Not sure how they arrive at their numbers, anyone know?

HeatMaster / How full is full?
« on: January 12, 2016, 12:27:21 AM »
Just wondering how full you guys fill up your G series gassers? Slim I know you said you have filled your 200 to the max before but if the fire box is filled completely front to rear, side to side and to the top does it feed ok on the ends?

This weekend was the coldest of the season, 5 degrees daytime and 8 below at night with 10 to 20 mph winds. I loaded my G400 with approximately 21" length pieces centered in the stove, filled side to side to the top of the loading door high. Heating my 50x60x16 shed and the house around 3200 sq. ft. and DHW. 14 hours later still had a good bed of coals that probably would have lasted another 2 to 3 hours.

Haven't tried filling it completely front to rear wondering how it would burn on the ends.

HeatMaster / Question on the G400
« on: November 07, 2015, 11:27:46 PM »
So you G400 owners or Heatmaster dealers, just a question. My G400 was manufactured this last August so it is supposed to have the latest updates. The back has the door now (changed out the non-locking latch with a lockable one which they should come with) which is insulated but the back of the stove inside the door is not. Is this to help preheat the combustion air which is drawn through the opening in the back bottom then routed to the front? I also took a piece of 1/4" galvanized mesh screening, folded it over a couple of times and placed it over the fresh air opening between the insulation and opening to prevent our hoards of Chinese beetles from getting into the back through the air opening. I will have to check it to be sure it doesn't clog with anything. I insulated the back of P&M with additional insulation but I am guessing I shouldn't on the G400? The water lines are probably the only areas that should be insulated in the back? Just wondering?

Plumbing / Strainers?
« on: October 14, 2015, 09:02:15 PM »
Just wondering how many of you guys use strainers on your loops out there. I installed them on each of my 2 loops just ahead of my pumps, which are in my buildings not behind the boiler, and after one season there was nothing in them. My loops are 1" pex and plenty long and am wondering about removing them to decrease head in the loop. Looking at the internals of the strainer (1" also) it looks like they would be adding to the resistance in the loop.

Plumbing / How much head to calculate
« on: October 11, 2015, 12:06:13 AM »
OK all you plumbing gurus I have a question for you. How much head would you calculate for a 1" pex system with the pump located about 175 feet from the boiler just before my 40 plate hx? My boiler is located 10 to 12 feet above my pump which should provide some supply side pressure to my pump, much like a water tower to a city water supply (.43 psi per foot of elevation) since this is an open, non-pressurized? Would I just need to account for the 40 plate hx and the 175 feet back to the boiler to size the pump? I know you can only get so much flow through each certain size lines also. Just wondering?

Plumbing / Design recommendation
« on: May 10, 2015, 09:57:43 PM »
Any recommendations from you veteran boiler users/installers out there? What are the possible options for hooking up three loads in a home being fed by a 1 inch pex line. The loads are a 10 plate water to water for domestic hot water, a 20 plate water to water for an in floor heating system and a water to air coil for a forced air heating system. Not sure what would be the best plumbing option, manifold style or mono-flow tees or ? Thanks.

Plumbing / Leaking push type fittings
« on: May 03, 2015, 12:11:51 AM »
Has anyone had problems with push type fittings (any brand like shark bite, etc.) leaking when the boiler cools down such as when shutting it down for the season?

Central Boiler / E3200 users

Wondering how the E3200 units are working and if there are any issues. Looking at the E3200 or the G400 by Heatmaster.

Heatmor / 350x
« on: February 08, 2015, 10:20:56 PM »
Does anyone have info on the new 350x that is supposed to be EPA phase II compliant? This is still an upflow unit from what i have been told. Wondering how it compares to a gasser?

HeatMaster / Heatmaster G400
« on: February 08, 2015, 10:15:37 PM »
Wondering if anyone out there has the G400? My Portage & Main is too small for my load and as long as i may be upgrading I am looking at a gassifier as I always use seasoned wood anyway. Wondering how it works and any problems? Thanks.
