Using in a day and a half what I used  all last week when temps were in the 40-60 range.  I cant tell what a rick is, to give you and estimate.

Our weekend place is an aframe my grandfather built    The main room has a fireplace that covers most of the wall with field stone (or Brown County stone as we call it in this area).  It has vents to circulate air through the stone. When it is going well, the stone all heats up and warms the room.

My father had it going all the time when he lived there.

We have a devil of a time getting it to operate on short visits. Sits below a 600 foot hill, so we think that contributes. I will birn some cardboard and paper to get the thing heated, but it is indeed a task. Smokes the place up at beginning of the fire.

I'm a Bulliett fan myself. Have heard of Pappy Van Winkle never had to pleasure to sit with him though. Have to hint to my wife , she likes bourbon too.

Yes i enjoy it as well.   Better do some reasearch on Pappy, and prepare for sticker shock. The empty bottles sell for more than most bourbons I buy.

Yes lesson I learned which I posted about, was to leave the circulation going. One of my employees says due to the distance their unit is away from the house, they keep circulation going all through the non burning seasons.

Oh yes Big Al.  I enjoyed a glass of Pappy Van Winkle which was a surprise gift. Locked in the gun vault til next year.

We live pretty far away from any town (by local standards) so we invited neighbors who, like us generally have a quiet New Year eve.

I decided to get the fireplace going for the first time in forever, and it not only made a nice touch, provieded some nice warmth. Wife and I decided we will enjoy it on weekends.

Ebbie my wood cutting partner found a new spot to hang out.  She does a great job of fending off fox squirrels and chipmunks while I am occupied with equipment. She has a 100% success rate.

Season two update. Wouldnt start at all. Needed a fresh plug, and is giving great sevice, but i have never needed to chamge a plug in a Stihl.  It could be new EPA rules have made them more sensitive. My First Stihl was bought in the early 90's. I broke it, and replaced it with a pawn shop one, that needed a new sprocket.

I am loving the work saving the Husq does, but i have also been more selective on the diameter of log.

Tree removal friend brought some humongous ash trunks by. Really over cutting through a three foot trunk.

Of course the yield after splitting is good, just suck to have to sharpen the chain after each cutting.   It zips through the 24 inch and under.   Made short work of a blow down cherry today.

I am at the end of a dead end road with four homes. Three of us have owb, and the other neighbors are a father and his son's families. Spread enough we dont smoke each other.

Oh yeah. I think I mentioned a neighbor who remodeled our kitchen this year and took our dog in that week, offered to take care of it. He has his wife mostly convinced to get one. Their home is pretty big, and utilities are hitting them.

I learned some lessons this time. silver lining was I found an issued with one of my furnaces, that I resolved and it is running much better.

Just ordered some on Amazon so I wouldnt forget.  Reviews were good on it outperforming PB Blaster and WD.  THANKS FOR THE TIP.

Temperature got up to mid 30's today. Got home after dark, and gave it a shot. Pump sounded like it was moving water. By the time i got inside and felt the intlet line to the furnace, it was nice and hot.

Not sure where the issue was, but lesson learned.   I think shutting off the pump and fan a couple days is not a problem, if i go way for 8 days, i will keep the pump going.

I am smug and happy again, nice and cold outside. When the owb is going and its toasty inside I let out an evil scientist laugh.

Four day weekend coming up and i have some blow downs to cut and split in hal- staying ahead of it this year and laying it into next season

I had a boil over due to a gasket issue, which was resolved.  Rather than the wind getting past the gasket, could it have been coming through the damper?   flap not completely closes and only high speed winds are making an issue?

Only other thing I can think of aside from gasket seal.

One error I made was to not leave the pump running, while away, so the water in the line was sitting there.

Pretty sure the pump is okay, I can hear it going when I plug it in. pressure builds up on both entry and return gauges, and it is the same psi.

My wife just had to go out of the country to "recharge her batteries" which comes from the high stress tasks of working at a not for profit- don't get me started.

I decided to shut of the boiler, only to be delayed 36 hours getting back when the coldest days I a frozen line- no circulation. trying to track down where it could be. the lines are exposed in the garage (unheated) as they are routed to the upstairs furnace. Been blasting it with a propane powered heater. No luck.

In checking some paint and varnish containers in the garage there is no indication they had frozen, so not sure if that is where my problem is.

Found my water pump was hot to the touch, after running for hours with no circulation and the boiler temp rising to 194.

Next step is to get into the crawl space and see if that is the problem. I am pretty confident the lines from the unit to the house were put in below frost line.

Are there any common areas along the units when they aren't running and a line freeze happens. I also took the propane unit out and blasted the plumbing at the OWB too.

my simple joy in life is having my OWB going on frigid days and enjoying a cheaply warmed house. I am a treat to live with right now. Hope she thought it was worth it.  Stayed tuned to my next rant about United Airlines treating passengers like crap.

Cut up a red oak blow down last year. Nice and seasoned now. Fires up great, and use it when I let the boiler get down too far.  Hate to use it otherwise, burning up as mush ash as possible.
