I put a blower on mine and put a switch so i can shut it off. I also drilled 5 or 6 holes 1 inch in size across the bottom of the fan. It pulls air through those holes when not in use which is most of the time. Works great for wet wood.Works like it always did without the fan when its off.

You really need to get that plate cut out and replaced. stainless used to be a bugger to weld but now days its ez. Hire a welder.

Hardy / Re: Hardy Update

D2082 cograts on your hardy. First off let me start off by saying my house has a lot of heat loss. My power bills were the main reason why I bought the hardy. Before the hardy I used around 100 kwatt hours a day. Now I use 35 to 40 kwatts a day. My electric bill has been no more than 125 bucks. I have burned thru around 4 chords of wood. I live in the middle of SC so its not that cold here. I wouldn't make it north of the Mason Dixon line. I don't mind cutting wood but I do have a lot of projects on the farm and with this old house so I'm going to try to get a head of the wood this summer. I would not change a thing if I had to do it over again. Best 8 grand I ever spent.
I did the install my self the hardest part was wiring the heat pump up to a new t stat and taking the fan control wiring and isolating the heat pump wiring. I went out and bought a basic 24 vac relay and wired it just like hardy says and it worked great. The folks on here will help you as well. I used alpex with the pipe insulation inside a 4 inch corrugated pipe. I don't know how great that is its hard to get my heat loss readings on that alpex. I want to get some temp gauges on there and see what that looks like
Um you burnt 4 cord and its only january? And thats good in S.C.?Im in Maine and burnt 8 cord all year and it was a long winter. Better get cutting.

When I got my 5036 i was told that I could and should burn 30"/36" wood. When throughing those in aand hitting the back of the boiler. Thought this cant be good for anything. Over the past few years ive found that 18/22" wood works better and acually burns longer.

I kmow this guy that buys an 18 pack of beer. Puts the beer in the fridg crisper. Leaves the box in tact on his counter top and stuffs it with junk mail . he does remove all plastic and non paper crap.

« on: January 19, 2015, 06:59:45 AM »
log Hog. Im not sure where your from but up here in maine, its a lot colder then new jersy. In warmer areas the stove sets longer between cycles. The fire may be close to out and the fan would help. my stove has more of a load on it and cycles are more often. The fire is alot hotter at start up. Most up here don't use a fan.

You don't have to drill any hole you just unplug the fan or put a switch on it,  aries if you need a hand I live in byram I will come and help you if you need it
Im not shore you have the same surface area through the fan as you do with out the fan inplace.Probably not enough draft.I also think the fans are better in the warmer areas cuz of longer time between burns.I talked to a guy down south and said all the stove they sell have fans. Most here in maine dont run them.
