Pump Going Out??
«

Hey guys, I've been running a pair of chinese knockoff Grundfos pumps for now my 5th season. I had one fail the first year, but it seized up and was obvious it was dead. This one is starting to sound funny. I can hear the water in the pump and it almost sounds like air bubbles in the pump. It sounds turbulent and not smooth. Is it about to die? Should I replace it now? I have a Taco ready to go.

I would replace it. If you take it apart I would guess you will find the ceramic bearing is worn down and the rotor is scraping on the side of the housing and wearing through the outer layer.
If that is what is happening with it, it is not likely to make it through the winter.

Is the actual design of the bearing different than a "name brand" pump? I've wondered but never knew for sure.
