Title: Hawken OWB shut-down procedure?
Post by: giXXer on August 05, 2009, 11:36:23 AM
I have a Hawken HE-2100 and was wondering what other owner's typical shut-down procedure is.  Obviously a general clean-up etc., but what about the stagnant water?  Anyone oil the inside?  Drain the water?  Typical adjustments?  Just curious.

This year on June the 5th. I let the fire go out.I let the unit cool down for a few days, cleaned out the fire box,put a bucket on the chimney to keep the rain out, oiled the fan motor, sprayed lube on the solenoid shaft and checked the water line strainer. Then took a water sample and sent it to Certified Labs for analysis. On July the 2nd. I received an email from Hawken Energy saying that the water sample that was sent to Certified Labs had tested satisfactory. So now in late September I will uncover the chimney load it with wood and make heat and hot water until next June.

PS During the shut down time I fill the water in the stove to the top of the vent pipe so there is no air space in the water jacket.
