Plate Exchanger for Hot Water
« on: November 11, 2015, 07:01:50 PM »

I have a plate exchanger for my domestic hot water.  I've had it in place for about 7 years.  Do you think I should take it out and have it cleaned?  I think I heard about a chemical that can be used to clean it........It seems like it may be restricting water flow.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, clean it.  CLR, vinegar, a few other recommended products around.  Most people use a small pump to circulate the cleaner/water through for a couple hours.

You can pick a small puddle pump up at Menards with a garden hose adapter on it for next to nothing, think I gave less than $75 for mine. Use a washing machine hose to connect your pump to the cleaning port on your plate exchanger, hook another hose to the other port and return it to the bucket, drop the pump in, pour a gallon or so of cleaning solution in and let it run.
