If anyone remembers all the troubles I've had, they have continued. I started with the 165 and it wasn't piped up right and fixed that and then after that the bottom of the tank got a hole in it. They said it looked like it was hit with the welder right in the middle of the bottom when it was being built. Didn't look like it to me (cheap and thin steel??). So they made up for it and switched it out for the 250. I just used it this last season and got along pretty good with it until I went out to feed the dog today and noticed water all around the stove. Its been sitting since late April and its got the proper chemicals in it for anti-corrosion. What the hell do I do now. This is just ridiculous. I know lots of others with other brands that dont even mess with chemicals in there water and dont have problems like this. I will demand another one.

good luck and keep the forum posted on your results please

Pretty common story I keep hearing. If you just google shaver problems you'll be baffled. I hate it for you! After 2 leaky stoves I think I'd just be demanding my money back from Shaver.
However, keep us posted, i'm interested in hearing how they handle this situation.

I got an email from them asking me if I had someone local to weld it. My first stove that leaked I had a friend (certified welder) weld it and it lasted maybe a week or two and sarted leaking again beside the original. It has to be the thin metal but why isn't anyone else having this issue? They are also wanting a picture so now I get to unhook the pumps, lines, electric and then start taking my woodshed apart since I built it around the stove. I'm almost beside myself dealing with this. I wish they would just give me my money back.
-
I wonder if your old boiler got new sheet metal on it and went to someone else and you got someone elses old boiler? Did they say it was new. They could probably do that and call it refurbished. (I have no idea if they do this I know that is what happens with computers and a lot of other products when you get a warranty replacement.
-
I'm pretty sure the second stove was new. Nothing had been in the firebox. But who knows about this place. Im really not sure what I want to do... I'm not going the welded route though. Demand a new one or fight for my money back.??? What's your guys thoughts?
-
If it was me I would try for money back first and new boiler as second option. I doubt you will be able to get the money out of them though.

My advice is to fight like hell. Your not the only one having issues though, dont fool yourself. I talked to a guy who was at there place and they said they were using old gas line casing for there fireboxes at the time and that it was in horrible condition. Said it might look really good one one side and nothing but thick scale rust on the other..

Now they want water sample sheets and an invoice. Will post a pic of the leak later this evening
-
invoice will likely be from teh 1st leaker and warranty will be from that time not from the time of the replacement? (just wondering)
-
They are talkin invoice and paperwork from wood boiler solutions. Water sample place. I got my shed pretty much takin apart but haven't moved the stove yet. I have located the leak though. It's about 8" from the back and right in the middle. I dried it off and you can see it seeping out. It feels like if I scraped it with a screwdriver it would go right thru it. Hope to mess with it some more tomorrow.

Shewww..... that doesn't sound good!
I would have much rather heard it was seeping at a weld, that could possibly be fixed easily, but for it to be leaking in the middle with less than quality material like your saying, then that confirms what i've heard.
Hope you get something worked out!

Try for the refund first. Makes you wonder about the metal with it leaking some where other than weld. I had a stove ordered from them before I bought the one i have. They didn't ship when they were suppose to so I canceled order. Kinda glade i did now. Sure hope you get it worked out.

I think I'm going to have to get a lawyer at this point. Got my sample sheets from July last year after I installed the stove and they look good. They will not call me back or email. I did get ahold of a lady at the desk and she says she dont know what else to do cause she says she forwarded all my info and calls but he says I'll just call back. And never does. Just wanting my money back now.
-
i have been reading in other forums of this company, many many bad reports of stoves not being delivered, refunds non existent, one guy said he ordered a stove in july of 2008 and never recived it by october, he drove to the plant all the way from michigan and picked one up off the lot and said the manufacturing plant was a disaster and recomende that no one buy one from them. this is (i guess) what i would call second hand info but i elected to pass it on as there have been many "not so good" messages in this forum over the time i have been here.

your right willie, i for one, HATE SHAVER. the reason i hate shaver is that they end up giving the whole industry a bad name!
often times people dont look real far into the different brands and then they hear all of the horror stories of shaver and it hurts the industry as a whole.
the craftsmanship looks like that of untrained monkeys and the customer service is apparently along those same lines!
-
I sent an email today saying they had 24 hrs. to get ahold of me or I was going to get assistance. I said I wanted my money back from the stove and they could come get it. That was about 6 hrs ago

don't hold your breath, and get in line

Well they finally got ahold of me. A different lady this time. They said this has never happened and they had a meeting today. She wanted me to send a stove water sample (which is empty) and a sample from the fill water. I know I'm going to get stuck with another one.
-
Cold season is around the corner. Talked with them today and they said they are waiting for my sample results. Stove sample was good so dont know whats to come from the house water. I still assured her I was still just wanting my money back.

There doing nothing but buying time and giving you the run around! Time to put your gloves on!
-
Yeah gonna see what they say about the water and I'm sure the fight will be on.
-
Well finally got some word today and they are building me another stove. I told them it needed some issues fixed before I got it and they said they have taken care of those issues.... chimney adapter, insulation on bottom of stove and cold water lines need to run to the front of the unit. He also said the vent comes out of the top and there is also a new style door that acually seals. He mentioned that we will be working together with 2 different water sample places to make sure this doesn't happen again.
-
Well it seems they are at least trying to make it right. hope all goes well.

Good luck buddy, I hope you actually check to see about some of those changes he said he would make!
I wish you could just get your money back and start over, i hope we don't see the post "leaker #3"

Well got told today that they are not going to cover it. They said the water was borderline corrosive and thats not warrantied. The thing is... is that dont have any paper work to show it. Shaver said they sent my water sample to alternative heating and that guy said he sent it to a buddy who owed him a favor as he was doing for Shaver. Something dont seem right. I have a local Culligan place that are going to test my water but its just for hardness, ph and acidity. Do I need a more in depth test? I'm really at a loss at this point and dont know what to do.
-
Did you have water treatment in it? If you did and they didn't require a water test then how can they void the warranty?
-
So long as you followed their warranty requirements I can't see how they could reject your claim. Sounds like its time to contact a good lawyer.
-
I got my initial sample after I installed it last July. Came back good but they said to add half a gallon of the anti corrosion stuff which I have the receipt for. Midway thru the winter I used the self home sample test and all seemed good.
-
typical warranty = 30 feet or 30 seconds what ever comes first
they can doctor your water sample any way they like and make any claim they like...they didnt even look at your water sample and they have no intention of helping you out. they are trying to make you as pi**ed of as they can in hope you will throw in the towel and move on. They will make you think there is no hope and suing is more costly than letting go. (is it, i have no idea) good luck and keep the forum posted. this is a good site for information (good and bad) if a company does not stand behind the warranties they promise than they should be exposed and if they do stand behind them they should get acknowledeged for that as well.
perhpaps we should have an area in the forum for just warrantie issues and if there were a complaint we could invite the dealer or the manufacturer to tell their side of the story as well? and if someone had a good experience with a warranty issue they could post that as well...kind of a free plug for the manufacturer but hey..if they stand behind their product it would be a good thing to know when you were looking to buy
-
The only thing I think I can do now is get a legit water sample and then move forward that way. My wife and I are really pulling our hair out over this. A local welder that has built 2 boilers is gonna come over and look at what I have and see if my claims are true. The steel is to thin and it appears that there was a crap load of slag and it all corroded on the bottom of the tank. On one of the bottom ports I took the cap off and a piece of slag about the size of two small marbles beside each other fell out.

Boy Was i wrong. Things have sure took a turn for the worse. They must have not had any intention of fixing your stove let along replacing it. May be time to get a lawyer. Be sure and take pictures of everything before welder does anything. Then take pictures after and during repair, that is if he can repair. Keep record of all phone calls ,e-mails etc. you send to them and there response. Every time you talk with them on phone follow that conversation up with either a letter or e-mail. All that information will come in handy if you have to get a lawyer. Which you probably know all this anyway.
I think Willie has the right idea on the warranty issue.
Wishing you the best

Well the local welder guy came over to take a look at what I have and says he feels alot better on the boilers that he has built. All the concerns that I have had he agreed with...especially the thin metal used for the water tank. Coming from a guy who has only built 2 he cant believe how crappy these are built.

Does he think he can repair it or is metal so bad its not worth it? Can you tell what gauge metal is on water jacket?
I had a shaver orderd in 2009 but thy failed to ship when promised. In the mean time I talked with someone local that had one. After that conversation I called and canceled order. Sure glad now I did. Seems that a lot of shaver owners have had problems.
They need to step up to the plate and take responibility for there units.
-
He says he can fix it by cutting off the whole bottom and replacing with 1/4". The current thickness is 3/16" for the water tank. To thin.
-
Finally got it flipped over and I could stick a chizel right thru it. There is no paint what so ever on any of it. The top plate looks almost as bad. Looks like water has been sitting on it and rusting like crazy.
-
From photo looks rough. May have been bad steel to rust through in a year. Is it 3/16? Only 1/16 shy of 1/4. pretty thick to rust through in a year. Makes you wonder if it was a new steel on the bottom of your stove to start with. Was your stove sitting right on concrete or was there insulation between.
It is a big investment to buy OWB. Then to have all the problems you are having, has to be frustrating.
-
It's 3/16 and was on a concrete pad. I had put 2" insulation board on bottom.
-
Well this guy is really helping me out. Bottom was cut off, new cold water return lines are in and its welded up. Now he is doing the top plate. Says he cant believe how much slag was in it.
-
If u think 3/16 is to thin for simply holding water then every stove manufacturer in the country better start over
That's pretty much the industry standard in mild steel
A hardy for example has a water jacket that's like 1/16 or 1/18
Bottom line is shaver is a scam!
I wouldn't have touched that furnace as far as repairs until after court.. Sue there hind ends
-
All put back together and water is heating up as I type. Ran it for 12 hours with pretreatment, and after it heated up I didn't see the fan cycle anymore so it must be holding the heat very well. Its only a low of 33* though. I also raised it 12" and its so much easier to load without bending over.
-
Glad u got it going. Raising stove up does make it easier on back. Raised my NCB up 4'' with cap block when I installed it and sure glad i did.
