Title: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 07, 2011, 11:17:17 PM
Link: http://169.254.224.179:8080/ (http://169.254.224.179:8080/)
If asked=User:Guest Password:Guest

During the daylight hours, see if the link works. Too dark at night. It's a Vivotek IP7361. No pan or tilt. Right hand side of photo has our CB5036. Thinking about adding it to my signature.

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah, sorry guys. I'm not a computer guru. I thought it assigned a network usable IP address But it re-assigned my LAN IP address. I'll work on it.

Does this work for you while you are at home? If so, assuming you have a router which connects your home network to the internet, you probably need to "punch a hole" thru it.

Still don't work.
Did you set up port forwarding?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 08, 2011, 07:14:41 PM
Anybody else?

Port forwarding is taken care of by the web host. I just sent them my LAN number 192.168.xxx.xx:8080
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 08, 2011, 07:17:27 PM
No it isn't.
You need to log into your router and open the port.

I can probably help you with this, but need you to answer the following questions.

How are you connected to the internet? Cable modem, DSL, FIOS? (DSL)

What is the brand and model of the Router your Internet Service Provider installed?(Netgear WNDR 3300)

Do you have an additional router between it and your Local Area Network? (NO)

Thanks for the offer. Answers in your post ( )

I gave up trying to use a Dynamic server. Setting up my weather station was so much easier as I didn't have to mess with the router.

FYI- The camera comes with software to enable differant communication. (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, ect)

So far no sucess, although I just added a static IP address to my router.

Ridgekid2.safe100.net  (This dns site was provided by Vivotek) you might have to add :8080 after the link according to the print out I made showing "Access from the internet".

In case that doesn't work I put a snap shot in my gallery. http://outdoorwoodfurnaceinfo.com/forum/index.php?action=media;sa=media;in=88;preview (http://outdoorwoodfurnaceinfo.com/forum/index.php?action=media;sa=media;in=88;preview)

I'll keep working on this, but not at the level I have over the last two days.......  :bash:

I think the software provided by Vivotek limited my capabilities. I removed it and purchased Blue Iris. The webpage link under my user name will link you to my weather station AND my webcam.

Bull- you got PM.

I finally tweaked the pic upload to my weather station to a consistant load. (I was reloading too often and only partial pics were getting through)

I also changed the the WEB icon UNDER MY USER NAME to the webcam.

Lights are on. But they are going off at 11PM, after that you'll have to wait till dawn.

How is that WS1080 working and how long have you had it? I have a Oregon Scientific WMR-200A on mine and I am using Ambient Weather's software.
I have had it going for a few years now. The wind direction broke on it a few months ago. I should get a new wind sensor ordered.

RSI- Funny you mentioned it. I was just talking to gmviso about the same thing. So I apologize for coping and pasting the info from the email we just shared.

I lost the transmitter during a nearby lightening strike, but purchased a replacement via www.AmbientWeather.com (http://www.AmbientWeather.com) (915 MhZ) And after a week of recent rain the batteries went low due to lack of sun. (Solar charger included on the model I purchased). Other than that I love it being wireless to the console. (good for up to 300ft) I have mine mounted on roof and transmitting to the upper floor of house about 40’ away. The weatherhub2 pushes me emails if I have a problem. I transmit to 5 different weather sites. Two of those sites now have a webcam connection made through my Blue Iris software (FTP).

In additon, I've had the unit for about 4 months.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 12, 2011, 10:12:01 AM
I just checked and mine has been uploading to Weather Underground since January 2009.
Mine is also wireless and they claim 300' but that is a joke. I have it maybe 50 or 60' away and it sometimes loses connection. I have to keep the receiver in the window. I seem to get over a year out of a set of batteries. It has the solar thing that is supposed to extent the life of them but not sure how much that does.
I threw the stupid plastic pipe away that it came with for mounting and put it on a piece of unistrut.

I would prefer wired to wireless. Actually I really would like one that connects directly to the internet by LAN cable but those are very expensive. ($1000+ last I checked)

I getting closer to going live with my webcams. Can you see if my test page is working? It's recommended to be tested outside my LAN.

What kind of a router do you have? Can you take some screen shots of the port forwarding page?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 21, 2011, 09:48:40 PM
Netgear wndr3300.

Port forward
Service name HTTP
Start port 81
end port 85
Server IP address 192.168.xxx.x

I also added a static route for my dsl modem. (verizon)

Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 21, 2011, 09:52:41 PM
That sounds like you are just opening up a range of ports. What port is the webcam using?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 21, 2011, 09:57:00 PM
Port 80 but I can't share the tzo webserver with that port, so I put it on 81.

I only have a test page up now, which is testing on my LAN ok. (which doesn't explain why the link is not working.)
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 21, 2011, 10:05:24 PM
If the camera uses port 80 you need to set it to forward, not just open some ports.
It will probably look something like this.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 21, 2011, 10:23:51 PM
It lets me pick a range, but I can't start @ 80 since it's already in use.

I also know my test page does not work if I delete the static route, so that is getting me past the modem.

Will it work if you take the 81 off the end of the address?     www.ridgekid.myipcams.com (http://www.ridgekid.myipcams.com)
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 21, 2011, 10:27:36 PM
That is because you are doing the port range. You should have a place to enter info like in the screen shot I posted. You can pick any number (I picked 5000) and it will forward that to port 80. Then the link you need to use would end in 5000 instead of 80.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 21, 2011, 10:44:33 PM
Well I tired what you suggested. It told me to reboot my router and now port forward has nothing there........

Looks like you need a new router  Lol http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=33540 (http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=33540)
That is old though so they may have fixed it.
I know you probably don't want to allow access but I would be willing to take a look if you wanted to to turn on remote management.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 06:15:27 AM
Thanks for taking the time to find that info. I too have the most current firmware. Like you said it might be time for a new router.

I ran accross a software yesterday (can't find it at the moment) that will force open ports on routers. I need to put more thought into this as I don't want to jeopodize my home security. I might have to look for a place that will host my webcams. In other words I send it, they display it.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 11:04:59 AM
Found the software. It's called PFconfig. It goes in and sets up any port forwarding address you want to your router.

Unfortunately it still didn't work.  :bash:
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 11:15:39 AM
Did you pay them for it? Their website says they guarantee it to work.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 01:27:20 PM
Help me understand. I'm working with 3 address's

INTERNAL IP address: 192.168.xxx.x  (This computer)
ROUTERS IP Address: 192.168.xxx.x
EXTERNAL IP address: 74.98.xx.xx (I assume this is the dsl modem)(Verizon if your wondering)

Blue Iris has it's own "webpage" which I want to share. But I  do not want to share my IP address. So I created ridgekid.dyndns.org, there I set IP address 74.98.xx.xx
Blue iris is setup to preferably use Port 80 so I opened a port per PFconfig for TCP/UDP 80-81
Blue iris software is also set up on port 80
I setup my dyndns.org account on my router.
I also have a static port open for 74.79.xx.xx

What am I missing? Or did I do too much?

Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 03:23:50 PM
You can not use port 80 from outside your network. It will be blocked. That is what port forwarding is for.
If you set your router to forward from say port 500 to port 80  then when you go to ridgekid.dyndns.org:500 the router forwards to 80. It also needs to know the IP address of your camera so it can forward to that.

Is this how you have been trying to set it up?

Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 03:33:34 PM
Yes. It was set-up that way. Port 80-81.

I can't go backwards on numbers. Ok for 80-500?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 03:53:50 PM
Did you enter the IP address of the webcam in your router when you set it up?
I was just looking at that last link I posted and it looks like something is missing. It says Blue Iris requires ports 80 and 81 forwarded but don't see what they are forwarding to.

The 500 I mentioned in the other reply was just a random number I picked.
pretty much any ISP will block port 80 because they don't want people hosting websites on their home computers.

There is no need to x out the internal IP adddresses. They can not be accessed from outside your network. You router is probably 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
Almost every router anyone has will be set at the same IP address.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 05:42:39 PM
LOL. I know. Good guess. Router is 192.168.100.1  I can tell the world now. Cuz my darn modem won't let anyone in! (verizon DSL).

So you'll all have to watch the still pics of the backyard through my weather link. Maybe one day you'll catch me putting wood in the OWB. I should have the new dusk to dawn light up before Saturday night.....

Thanks for your assitance. But I'm done with this project. Spent way too much time on it.
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 05:52:15 PM
Does your modem happen to be acting as a router? If so that might be your problem. Did your router change the IP address of your router to that from the default?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 06:08:20 PM
It goes from modem to router to swtiches to components of my LAN. When I changed my LAN from Dynamic 192.168.100.5 to Static 192.168.100.150 nothing changed. So I changed it back.

The modem has a external IP address (74.98.xx.xx) that never changed no matter what I did to my Router.

I don't know how things work upstream of the modem, but when I did a location check on the modem it said I was in Virginia!

Sorry I'm not more informative, thought this was a easy set-up.

I just tested the webpage (internal LAN) and the webpage I wanted to share popped right up. http://192.168.100.5/default.htm (http://192.168.100.5/default.htm)

If you log into your router can you find what it is showing for the WAN IP? Is it the 74.... IP or a 192?
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 06:34:56 PM
Ok, I just did a quick search and it appears that the modem is set to router mode by default. You have to log into the modem and either configure it so it is not running it router mode or forward the ports from there to your router.

Wan page is not setup. Intructions on how to are as follows:

WAN Setup Help
Using this page, you can set up a Default DMZ Server and allow the router to respond to a 'ping' from the internet. Both of these options have security issues, so use them carefully.

Disable SPI Firewall - The SPI (Stateful Packet Inpection) Firewall protects your LAN against Denial of Service attacks. This should only be disabled in special circumstances.

Default DMZ Server

Specifying a Default DMZ Server allows you to set up a computer or server that is available to anyone on the Internet for services that you haven't defined. There are security issues with doing this, so only do this if you're willing to risk open access. If you do not assign a Default DMZ Server, the router discards any incoming service requests which are undefined.

To assign a computer or server to be a DMZ server:

Click the Default DMZ Server check box.
Type the IP address for that server.
Click Apply.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Respond To Ping On Internet Port

If you want the Router to respond to a 'Ping' from the Internet, click this check box. This can be used as a diagnostic tool. Again, like the DMZ server, this can be a security problem. You shouldn't check this box unless you have a specific reason to do so.

MTU Size

The normal MTU (Maximum Transmit Unit) value for most Ethernet networks is 1500 Bytes, 1492 Bytes for PPPoE connections, or 1436 for PPTP connections. For some ISPs you may need to reduce the MTU. But this is rarely required, and should not be done unless you are sure it is necessary for your ISP connection.

NAT Filtering

This option determines how the router deals with inbound traffic. The Secured option provides a secured firewall to protect the PCs on LAN from attacks from the Internet, but it may cause some Internet games, point-to-point applications, or multimedia applications not to work. The Open option, on the other hand, provides a much less secured firewall, while it allows almost all Internet applications to work.

Disable SIP ALG

Some SIP applications have their own way to work around the NAT firewall issue, and the SIP ALG would conflict with those solutions. In most cases, you do not have to disable the SIP ALG. However, if your SIP applications cannot work with the router, you can disable the SIP ALG and try the applications again.

For more info:

I have this modem: http://compare.ebay.com/like/160646497243 (http://compare.ebay.com/like/160646497243)

If I type in the IP address 74.98.xx.xx it asks for a user name and password which I don't have

Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: RSI on September 22, 2011, 10:19:15 PM
what happens if you try going to 192.168.1.1
That should be the IP of your modem. For the login, try:
user id: your verizon.net user id
password: your verizon.net password

If that doesn't work try :
username: admin
password: password
Title: Re: Webcam link
Post by: Ridgekid on September 22, 2011, 10:29:49 PM
I got into it once. It was admin/password.

Firmware is ver 5.01.00.04  Wanted to find a update, if there is one.
No firewall installed
Fixed the clock/daylight savings time
Checked the upnp box so it would show up on LAN. I know what IP address they use for router. 192.168.100.xx
Got the mac address

Am I getting closer?

The last link might not have been any good. I went back and see it says the menus are different for your model.
I just found this which might work. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,17002322 (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,17002322)
I am not sure if you need to put in the IP of the router or the webcam. I am thinking it needs to be the router because you have to get through that firewall but if it doesn't work you could try the other.

I was getting tired too. Went to bed way too late! (or should I say early- 2am)

No. I tried with errors. I once comitted my modem to DMZ. Don't know what it was but tried it. Oops it didn't like that all all!  Luckily there was a reset on the modem to put it all back to default.

I need my Modem and router to start agreeing what I want. My camera software (Blue iris) is a webserver based software. It prefers port 80 but can be set sequentually <sp?> moved up if needed. It needs to tell the router it's ok if mr modem comes in and see the Blue Iris webcams.

In other words: My modem has a external IP adress XX.XXX.XXX.XX and it communicates with IP adress 192.168.100.39 which is my router.  So how do I tell my router if anyone pings my Ext IP adress to forward to my router and my router should forward to my webserver? (which is my computer)

I'm not having any trouble posting pics to my weather station website. <click weblink under my user name

Anyway, I'm not smart enough to know what it all means. Two many abbreviations. Looking for professional help! Any volunteers?   ;)

Well guys, you'll just have to put up with still pics from my weather link. I'm done messing with it. After bridging, my external IP changed so many times it made my head spin. That and the fact there is still something not allowing you to my webserver. (Probably a firewall) So for the sake of sanity, we'll just leave things the way they were, including unbridging the modem.

Thanks for everyones support. I do appreciate the efforts you put into it.

Ready for another try (no guarantees, but I think I'm close!)

Windows firewall-Has enable Blue Iris for both public and lan use
Norton- Has accepted blue iris as trusted software (PC not working as hard now)

Modem- Bridged per instructions: www.dslreports.com/faq/13600 (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13600)
Modem-Enabled DMZ

Router-Port forwarded-Port 80

I don't know if I need to do anything else to the router?

fireboss- No that works the way I set it up. Those are snapshots uploaded to my weather station. No issues there.

I want to get my cameras to go "LIVE" using Blue Iris software. Blue Iris has a built in web server. I want to use a dyndns address to link a connection to this program. (Dyndns hides IP address')

Here's a link to someone that has succeeded setting theirs up: http://www.acmecombustion.com/jpegpush.htm (http://www.acmecombustion.com/jpegpush.htm)

Reset EVERYTHING- Modem and Router!

Modem is Bridged -PPoE provider
Router reset-Reattached all devices (one at a time) DHCP network
Router has Port forward set to 80-81
Router has Enabled dynamic DNS to ridgekid.dyndns.org??
Using DYN client to auto update external IP address to Ridgekid.dyndns.org

Can anyone think of anything I'm missing?

Hard to say without being there.
There are two ways I would go at it at this point. Either reset the modem to the way it was and find the WAN IP address of the router and set DMZ to that address. Then set port forwarding in the router.

Or

I would try resetting the modem back to the way it started and replace the router with a switch.
Everything on the network will have to get new IP addresses after that. If set to DHCP just resetting it will get a new IP. If set to fixed you will need to change manually. Doing this would set all the IP addresses on your network to 192.168.1.xxx
After you get new IPs then log into the router and setup port forwarding for the camera.

Question: What about QoS and Static route? Should I have something set-up there?

I don't think you want to enter anything for them.

How about another port? 8080?

Getting close. I would check the dyndns account and see if you can manually update the IP address.

I'm using the dyn updater. Anytime my IP address changes it changes it at the dyn website (host?)

I think I got it! Drop the WWW!

http://ridgekid.dyndns.org:8080 (http://ridgekid.dyndns.org:8080)

If that link works, I want to try to go back to port 80. then we can drop the 8080 at the end of the current address.

I connected, it says the server may be down but it shows your front and back cameras.

Not sure why you got that message. Server wasn't down. Any other issues?

NOTES-
As you open the page you have choices at the top for JAVA, JPEG or Active X. When I had IE I enabled Active X, now that I have Mozilla it's JPEG. So I'm guessing browsers determine how you will view it.

Anyone have a speed problem? Don't look like I'll be able to go any faster. I checked and I'm set to maximum MTU.

Now that the cameras can go live I look forward to sharing my Green Dragon puffing away.......

EDIT: for those using active X I raised the bitrate from 512 kbps (default) to 900 kbps

Ridgekid,
It looks a little foggy in your web cam photos this morning.
