Title: So What Chemicals is Everyone Going With

Finally about to get my boiler all fixed from the crappy work of Shaver.  I want to put the best of the best chemicals in it but dont know what that is.  Would be nice to find something that would put a coating on the inside.  What are your guys thoughts.

Nobody using chemicals?  Like to know what the guys with boilers running up around 6-10 years are using.

I have been using what Natures Comfort recommends for there stoves. Don't know name right now will check and post name later. Drained mine this year, flushed and refilled. Only had mine since Feb.09. Water looked real clear when drained.
Glad to hear you got your stove fixed. Did you replace whole bottom?

Yeah I had the whole bottom and top replaced. As well as some other fixes.

I tried to get specific technical information on a product that was offered by a local dealer but I was told that he didn't know how it worked but that it was "good stuff"
I decided to have a homemade treatment for my homemade boiler.  Sodium phosphate and sodium hydroxide precipitate any hardness salts, and raises the pH to about 8.5 to 9.0 where corrosion is least likely to occur and sodium sulphite as an oxygen scavenger but admittedly this is a poor choice for an open system.  Sodium nitrite would be way better.  Hopefully next year I will be using a proper commercial product.

What have you been using before? I think most brands require you to use theirs for the warranty.

There are also some brands that have dye in it so you know if you need to add more by the color of the water. It is about the same price and from what I have heard the active ingredients are pretty much the same on most.

I put in what Central Boiler recommended: Corrosion Inhibitor Plus Polymer Solution.
