Title: circulator pump location

hi to all again finally got sheet metal on the roof and sides have to get camera back for the pic  first do you think silcon around smoke stack would keep rain water from getting in second would you put the circulator pump as  a pusher or puller pump will be in basement but should it push the water into the coil or be on the return and pull it through the coil  starting to get excited getting closer to liting  it up after all the work and scrounging for parts  thanks for help gary

 high temp slicone works good but you might check it know and then, as for pump it doesnt matter. mount at furnace thier will be less chance to suck air. the water pressure balances out .

Either mount on the furnace or if your house is the lowest point that would work also.
I used high temp silicone on mine and after a year it looks great still.

Put the pump before the heat exchangers. It will last a lot longer.

RSI,  what is your theory?  I have mine set up that way, but now that you mention it, I'm not sure why.  It was just convenient that way.  But your mention makes me think after the hx's would be cooler water than the 180 going into it.  just curious of your philosophy.

Pumps need to run under some pressure and don't like being starved. If you are trying to pull it will have some suction on it. (on a pressurized system it wouldn't make as much difference)
If you are pushing the pump will make some pressure and keep the impeller lubricated properly.

my pump is in my basement, it is about 6 feet or so lower than the OWB and i like to think that with the OWB tank that far above the pump, the stove is actually putting a little pressure on the pump and that in turn makes my 500 foot loop of underground pex really only 250 and that means my head pressure because of length of pipe and  fittings is reduced because my pump is pushing water 250 feet ? it is also ahead of any of my "appliances"

My pump is also in my basement and I put it just before the manifold that feeds all of my stuff.  The only thing between the OWB and the pump is a couple of 1-1/4" valves.  The pump sits about 10' lower than my OWB so it's got decent head pressure feeding it.
