Title: What Burns in Standard OWB?
Post by: rhugg on October 31, 2011, 11:17:52 AM
What do you guys burn in your standard OWB (Not Gassifier)?  I swear you could design a small house to run on junk mail.  Paper/cardboard so long as embers not coming out stack? Used motor oil in smal volumes?

100% wood. Don't plan to burn anything else.

I know a Hawken's owner that burning anything he can incinerate. He operates 24/7.

I've burned all kinds of debri in my homebuilt gasser! >:D
yard debris, paper trash and plastic bottles from the shop.Kids old back pack they left out in the yard for all summer.
I actually got her to start burping as she was getting hot.I had a little water trickling out my over flow drain on the side.
If it will burn and fit through the door.Theres a good chance its might get burnt later.Might as well burn it in there as opposed to burn it on the pile out back.Get some heat out of it that way.
I don't really see a big problem with it.Except for combustibles like gas and aresol cans.I have another burners for those aresol cans >:D

I only burn wood and cardboard.  I would be leary of other things as the temperatures and chemicals could do very bad things to your firebox.

I burn only wood with exception to whatever cardboard rubbish we accumulate from time to time.

I burn wood, mainly maple, but occasionally may burn a bit of junk mail -saves running it through the shredder.

Just about anything will burn in it but what it does to the firebox and what comes out the chimney may not be so good.
I would not burn any type of petroleum product unless it is a duel fuel using with an oil burner on it.

Well anything will burn lol..Its just up to you what your throw in it...Any brand of OWB is designed to burn 100% clean wood...Its just a matter if you throw something else in the firebox.. Then you might get a complaint from a neighbor or something...
