Had a vender at work tell me about having to weld on his PW 4 times in 10 years. He said GH made the PW's. Anyone know? His is 409 ss(magnet sticks to it). Now my neighbor is worried about his 6 year old PW. Don't know what his is made from.

I believe that for a time, Outdoor Heating Systems, Inc. (aka Wood Doctor), had a stainless line of stoves that were made by Global Hydronics, that they sold under the name of Pacific Western. There were a lot of issues with these Pacific Westerns, and Outside Heating Systems, Inc. (aka Wood Doctor) severed ties with the maker (Global Hydronics). The split happened several years ago.
I believe that to be mostly accurate.

Does he really have a 6 year old Pacific Western that hasn't leaked yet? Lol What model does he have?
I had one for 7 or 8 years and had it welded twice. The first re-weld cracked. The guy that re-did it said it was because it was done with a stick welder and said it should only be welded with a TIG welder.
Mine started leaking either the first or second season. I am not sure which but didn't even know it for a few years. If you have to add water more than once a year then it is leaking. Mine was inside the firebox and the water mostly boiled away as it leaked out.
They are really simple boilers (no ash pan, blower is in the door, etc) so cheap and easy to repair. I wouldn't worry too much about it if he is keeping it maintained and enough chemicals in the water. For the price he paid he is still ahead having it welded a couple times.
