I am new here and new to wonderful world of owb. I am loving the fact that other than my dryer I am free from the gas man! I have a P&M ML 30 heating my house and large pole garage (no dhw yet might have to wait till next year). My question is I stock it about every 12-14 hours morn & eve and it seems like no mater what I put in it it burns. I mean if i put in six chunks of wood it burns thru it and I have a few larger coals left but for the most part the wood is gone, and if I fill it full I have the same result maybe my chunks of burt wood are a little bigger but for the most part wood is gone. This make any sense or am I just needing a little more experience?

I've noticed a lot of factors for wood consumption. The biggest being, how much heat load did I put on the OWB during the last 24 hours. Did I turn up the thermostat? Did I use more hot water? (I know you stated you don't heat water...yet).
Another is, how many burns did you get in the last 12/24 hours?
I've been narrowing down these factors for a week now since my temp monitor pushes emails every time the green dragon starts. I find that even if I have big chunks left over, just wait until after the next burn to re-stock. The ashes burn finer and are still hot enough to get the fire going again. Your situation may be different. But the more you monitor it, the better you'll get at it.
In short, it is a learning experience.

i have found that letting your wood burn down to where it will not bring the stove back up to temp wont harm anything. give it a try.. i have stirred the ashes and only put a small piece or two in at night and when i come out in the morning the stove's bower is going and teh stove is in a position it is not capable of heating the stove anylonger..there are glowing coals but not enough to get the stove to the set point. at this point i feel i have got about all i can get from that bit of wood..i stir the coals again to get the hottest ones to the top and add enough wood for the day..it is a learning curve all new owners go through...from opening the door everytime you don't see any smoke to forgetting to load it..it wont hurt anything..learn and live well
