I don't know how a lot of you operate but I for one hate to waste anything.  I sort out all our paper trash, card board, junk mail you name it.  It's free btu's and I see no point in sending it to the landfill when I could get some benefit out of it.  We eat a lot of nuts around the holidays and we end up with several box fulls of hulls, they sure add a nice pop to your fire when you throw in a 12 can pop/soda box full of them in there.  Bottom line is if it will burn and not hurt your stove, go for it.

				Agreed :post:

I'll refrain from burning anything while it's under warranty. I would love to burn dry garbage in it since that's why we have a burn barrel. Glass and cans go to recycle bin at local food store.

Ridge, would they care if you burned paper?  It is wood

Ridge, how do you start a fire in your OWB?  I use junk mail (which is more plentiful than dirt), some cardboard (gets real hot) and some twigs.  I certainly hope paper doesn't void your warranty!  Of course, in this ridiculous world where common sense doesn't exist, that might be the case with the warranty.  I hope that isnt true!

Furthermore, how would they know!?  Anyone ever see the movie Waterboy - the scene with the Roy Orbison tattoo?   "What momma don't know, won't hurt her!"

I'm not a magician so I use paper kindling and a match.  The paper comes from my office shredder.

I agree cardboard should be ok and good for a clean out.
-
Yea we have no idea what folks burn in there stoves.

However, I don't think anyone could say anything about paper ridge, if that was true, you voided your warranty the first time you fired it up

We have a box in the garage that we use for any burnable garbage.  (mail, newspaper, boxes etc...) I even have my sister in law putting her sensitive documents in there because she doesn't have a shredder.  (Lives next door)

I just grab the box if there's anything in it one the way out to the stove each day.  Saves room in the garbage can too!

My brother has had a CB6048 for at least 15 years now, and burns pretty much everything in there.  Never uses any chemicals for the water and hasn't had any problems with it...  I don't go that overboard though...

the last stove i had i burnt a boat in it had to cut it up to smaller pices the guy from work said he would only leave it at my place for a couple of weeks well 4 years later no reply so its gone now >:D

Years ago when I was a wee lad, my late dad used to have us kids (9 of us) take the old newspaper roll it tightly until it got the diameter of about 8 inches and we'd toss it in the wood stove.  It worked great for those early fall or late spring days when you needed something to break the chill in the house.  I may do that to get rid of the pile I have and mix it in with the firewood in the E-classic 1400.  Roger

I remember doing that when I was a kid!  We don't have a daily paper delivered but that's great idea.

-
As we transition towards a paperless society, what will we start our fires with in the future?   I am not sure how well a computer will burn but the odd time I am tempted to find out!

-
I start my fires with papers and I have a 5 gallon bucket that i put saw dust or cutting chips in and pour in used motor oil. Mix it up and use just a handful to start the fire.

-
i dont think we will get rid of junk mail eny time soon

Junk mail is pretty much keeping the postal service a float somewhat lol...Might not get as much since its gonna take longer to get mail with the proposed changes and closings
-
i burn all junk  mail and cardboard product like pizza ,cereal boxs. it cuts down a bunch on the trash.

-
I start my fires with cardboard and paper usually, but I rarely burn it in the OWB once the fire is lit.  It generates a lot of ash so I like to burn it in my burn barrel while I'm outside working on stuff.
