Vermiculite is what a lot of companies use, hard to beat it.

country, there will be many things you can likely use. i built my door freame out of 4x4 angle and used fire brick sitting on the ledge of the angle and a piece of wire mesh tacked over top to keep it in place. after a year or so the fine ashe filled in the cracks between the bricks. with a raging fire it does get hot enough that you cold pu tyour hand on it but you dont want to. i guess that means it is not as good as some other stuff but it sure isnt as hot as the inside!

I had a hard time finding insulation also. I ended up using ROCKWOOL, I think the temp range it can be used for is up around 1000 deg C. Hope it works. I am firing mine up tomorrow.
