Title: portage and main ml-30
Post by: wiseass13 on December 19, 2011, 11:16:56 PM
Posted this on portage and main section with no response. Here goes: just a few days from firing up my new portage and main ml-30. This is shaker grate model. Manual shows air adjustment plate on blower but my stove didnt come with one. Does coal need more air than wood and if im primarily burning wood should i have a plate to fine tune my air flow. Great site and thanks for any feed back

Don't have P&M but from what I have read some say you do need more air for coal. I would ask P&M what they recommend and follow there recommendation. Would also ask about air adjustment should have some way ti adjust air. The P&M's that I have seen had air adjustment.
I have a NCB which they say will burn coal. It does but not very well. No shaker grates. Smokes like a Coal fired trane.

wisea$$,
Ask your dealer. He should have made himself aware of most of the ins and outs of your ML 30 before he sold it to you. If he can't help you out, pm me and I will give you the number of someone who will.

If you have a 175 you should be able to upgrade it to shaker grates.

I have an ML 30. It has a plate that covers the fan to adjust the air flow. Mine is not a shaker grate model.

My dealer didnt know. So i called another dealer that i talked to when shopping around and he said they changed design on them and i should have no issues. But he got upset when he ask me how much i paid for stove cause it was 1000 less then what he sells for. Only called him cause i knew he was knowledgable. Thanks for posts guys
