I took advantage of the warm day in NE Ohio today.I let the OWB burn down and took out some ashes for the second time this season.Did anyone else have time to do this? Looks like the colder weather is on the way back, and I was glad for such a nice day to do this chore.

I've taken my ashes out a couple times already this year. I did give them a good stir today while it was empty. It's amazing how they get so fine in my CB that they almost look like a liquid. I don't have a great so I just use a flat shovel to get them out when it's time. I think that actually is less messy than to try to handle a large ashbox...but who knows.

Yes it was a nice day to clean the firebox almost all of my ash is out next time might not be till spring

I also took my ashes out yesterday and for the first time ever! I've only been burning for about a month though. Near the last scoop or so of ashes, I found a 1X6 board and realized the only 1X6 I've ever put in there was the first day I lit the fire.
I was so touched with emotion that I pulled the 1X6 out, and had it encased in lexan and am currently displaying it on my mantle.

You'll get desperate one cold night and throw it back in. I've threatened to start dismantling outbuildings to keep the thing burning..hehehe
