Outdoor Wood Furnace Info

What do you use to haul your wood? Do you have an old beater with a big flatbed or something new and reliable pulling a trailer?
I have something in between I guess. '97 F-250 Crew cab, 7.5 liter gas engine. It's in pretty good shape so I don't beat it up but I've had it in a hole or two accidently. I usually pull a trailer that I can beat up a bit so I don't worry too much about filling my little 6.5' bed.
A big one ton with a flatbed would be nice, you can get almost 2 normal truckloads on one of those...

I have a pretty decent old 1992 F-150 with a 300 - 6cyl and a long bed. I usually fill the truck, and then hook to a flat trailer with 32" tall side boards. It is 16 ft. long X 6' 8" wide. I cut my wood here on the farm, so I don't have to worry about taking it out on the road much. I try to really take care of my truck and trailer, but with both loaded, that is about all the little 6 cyl. will handle. Truck and trailer loaded is 2.25 cord. I also have a 1700 series international dumptruck, but it is just too tall to load, and too big to get around on the farm.

I use my ATV and a trailer. I have somebody drop off free wood for me. A tree service cuts down all these trees, saves the smaller stuff and sells it, but drops off all the larger rounds at our place. My brother lives right next door and has been burning his OWB for 8 years now. I finally got my OWB this year and the guy delivers the wood right between our house.
We cut it to length where it drops, and haul it to our stoves from there. He uses a skid loader though.
I did end up getting a good deal on a F-150 4X4 for 200 bucks though and will be using that I'm sure.

Right now I use my '03 Dakota. It's pretty tough for all the bigger it is. I can load it really full before the back end sinks very badly. I need to cut close to 3 loads a week in order to keep up with the furnace in real cold weather. It's small but it gets the job done. It's the truck in the little picture beside my posts.
I also have a 92 F150 4x4. It's a 5 speed with a 300. It's a piece of crap that that hasn't run in a few years but I'm hoping to get it back into decent enough shape to use as a farm beater.

Well if I'm fetching from my neighbor's which most of is. I use my 4- wheeler and wagon, if it's soft and muddy my yanmar cr10. If I got a bunch in one area I'll stage my 14' dump trailer in the field. If someone calls and says get this tree outta my yard, I'll go grab it with the mini excavator and thumb attachment or skid steer with grapple bucket either way it's all about the wood

Correction ! the bank owns a lot of neat toys, I just house, maintain and use them for a monthly fee and now the bank has a OWB! heck I'm lucky to own my wheelbarrow. yes sir living the american dream.

The good thing is that after the government signs this enormous bailout bill all of your money will be worth a tenth of what it is now so if you invest $100 now inflation will make that $100 more like $1000 in ten years so you'll get so much more money out of your assets...but that $100 in the bank won't be worth holding onto because it won't buy a thing.

97 Dodge Cummins dually, 16 ft trailer, and a motorized hand truck to load the trailer. I cut the wood to firewood length, and load it for later splitting at home, most of what I cut up lately is 24" to 42" dia. I know some of the rounds have to weigh 600 lbs. or more. I can load the trailer faster than I can cut the wood.

Judd- My buddy has one of those,but his has the winch on the front end.Talk about a hoss!He just put the power steering conversion on it,and next is the dump bed kit.If I owned my own woods I would have one of thoses babys. :thumbup:

I bought an 96'ram 2500 4x4 v10 to haul logs home from the woods.I haule them on my 24' deck over gooseneck.Load them up with my New Holland LS170 skidsteer with a grapple bucket. :thumbup:Sure makes it easier to deal with all of it.
