At 5:00am this morning is was minus 10 wind a gusty north wind at 10MPH putting the windchill somewhere around minus 30 in the upper valley region of NH. I live on the north side of a mountain without any protection from a barrier of any type. There is absolutely nothing to prevent the wind from slamming into the north side of the house. As I write this it is still below zero and wind has picked up a bit and I'm toasty warm in my house.
The pic below (I don't have a winter pic to share - just what I'm forced to look at when there is no snow on the ground) shows what I see looking north. Believe it or not, my neighbor's house, visible through the tree line is 75 feet lower than mine making the tree line ineffective. The wind simply blows over the top of the them. I guess that's why I am so amazed by the E-classic 1400 (when one learns to keep the air holes open). This morning being typical for winter weather and I'm toasty warm. Roger

7* here this morning. Green Dragon is doing an awesome job. Only 1-2 pieces more a day.
I stock 2x a day. At 9pm I stock for the night. Usually 8 pieces of wood. 12 hours later I check and she still has at least half the wood I stocked the night before, but I add 3-4 more pieces to get me through the day. At 9pm I stock it again.
Unlimited hot water and thermostat set at 74*. Life is good!!

29 here and loving my first winter with my OWF! I try to do 12 hr burn times and am amazed at how little wood I have to put in to run 12 hrs and to keep my house at 74 degrees and my hot water hot.
-
How are you all getting away with 74* or less? My bride insists on at LEAST 75*-- then when summer gets here, the entire house must be kept no higher than 69* :bash: Most of the winter, my son and I run around in our underwear, and in the summer, we use blankets to watch TV. Ya' don't have to wonder who rules the roost here, do ya'?

well with oil heat last year thermostat was set no higher than 68. but now i have the outdoor wood boiler and a full shed of wood so its set at 74 makes the wife happy so it worth it. paul

I saw 8 this morning, 12 inches of snow on the ground, and the Empyre pro series 100 was heating 2000 sq ft at 70 degrees. Life is good.

none yet. I'm still in the learning phase of this. I hope to be able to purchase a boiler in the next year or so. However My uncle just down the road still only loads once a day. I have no clue what he has, but he has done it right.

-6* this morning with the wind chill factored in the weather dude was figuring about -20. Went out this morning around 0830 and found I had hot coals and a couple chunks of wood. Loaded her right on up. Temps out right now according to the stick on the tree are hovering around -0*...still not taking into account the wind chill. Just came in from putting more wood in the box...hopefully last time for this evening.
"Attempted" to wire the Ranco myself this past weekend. Gave up and decided to just let the electrician wire it up, after all he did the initial wiring. Pretty certain once this is done, my furnace WILL idle when it's supposed to and run me through wood.
I keep telling myself, that it's all a learning experience now and that next year will better.

-2* yesterday morning, 4* above this morning. Almost too cold to cut wood. It'll be for 2014-2015 heating season, so I'm not in a big hurry to get started. In fact,I just talked myself into another cup of coffee
-
Looks like I'll have to plow snow for the first time this winter. But like Marty I'm in no hurry and will enjoy my coffee and watch the snow.
Thank goodness we did not get any ice as they were predicting........
