Nice video Scott.
-
I agree with Dirtslinger, nice video. Roger

How does it smoke when you first fill it up?..Nice video

I have light to moderate smoke for maybe 10 minutes.... If there is a lot of coal it will be a brownish yellow smoke until it gets hot then it's gone
-
Great video! Maybe those guys from the Hearth forum should see this! :D
-
Nice video Scott.
-
Some of the guys from the hearth site remind me of a bible verse from Romans, I believe, that says something to this effect: "professing to be wise, they become fools". If memory serves me, the group of people Paul was referring to essentially thought they were smarter than everyone else-including God.
Too bad some people can't see we're all out to accomplish the same set of goals. Their end will not justify their present means.

Nice video and nice stove
-
Nice video! I wish my Hardy H2 would run like that. I am burning very dry wood but it still smokes a lot! oh well, I don't have any neighbors so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Yea there are a lot of hardys around me and most of them smoke quite a bit, I've never ran one so I'm not sure what the problem is
-
yea even when the blower is on it still smokes quite a bit unless it is kind of low on wood. It still does its job though!
-
Yea my cousins looks like a locomotive with coal
I think part of the smoke issue is having the stack exit directly out the top with no time for burning some of the gases
-
 sweet....you should put that on youtube.

I think you are right Scott and that is not the best design but like AirForce said they work.

No doubt about that

Your burning coal in it?
-
Your burning coal in it?
Yes, of course.. Questions?
-
Does it look about like this? lol
-
what is that?
-
That's my Hardy smoking like crazy.

Looks like some I've seen. I've seen flames shooting 4 feet up out of the stack
-
Yeah, mine will shoot flames every once in a while but usually only when I load it full with smaller split pieces. It looks pretty cool too!

There is no secondary burn chamber at all? if you look down the chimney you can see the wood in there?

Yup, the chimney doesn't stick down into the firebox either. Just a hole at the top.
-
Are you interested in doing an experiment on it? If there is no extra space inside to put a plate you could try making an external secondary burn chamber. Just to see if would work you could use an old steel barrel. It would probably work best to put it on it's side. Cut a hole at one end for the chimney and one on the opposite side and end for the smoke to exit. I would also put a small fan on it to blow air in right where the smoke enters and is the hottest.
If it works something could be made up that was water jacketed to collect the heat it generates.
-
Yea RSI, there is just a round hole in the very top of the firebox
-
Interesting.... I have a buddy that has an empty keg. Do you think it would melt?
-
Is it aluminum? The fire in the secondary chamber could get hot enough to ignite aluminum. You need steel.
-
I'm assuming it is aluminum. I doubt I would ever have the time to tinker with it but it sounds like a good idea.
-
What if he found a similar size pipe and slid it down through his stack and let it extend into the firebox about a foot
-
That would probably be much easier! I might try that for next year. I might loose a lot of my firebox capacity though.
-
Yea there is only so much u can do
-
Yeah, I figured there is no room to spare. But if it did cut down on wood usage it might not matter that it uses up some space.

Very true!
-
I was going to try this idea when I rebuilt my H2 but did not get it done YET. I may try to build a owb for next season but if not I will try the stack in the fire box.
-
Boy I made her smoke this morning :) I tossed in a whole bag, including the bag of wood pellets that were laying in my garage.. They had got damp last year and ruined but man you talk about some smoke lol.
-
No video? lol
-
Nope had to cover 200 miles to get to the national farm machinery show in louisville, every stove around is here

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. They think their so much better and smarter than OWB users.
