Title: Fiskars Axe
Post by: AirForcePOL on February 22, 2012, 08:08:14 AM
I just went to Sears and picked up a Fiskars Pro Splitter Axe and this thing is awesome! I really wanted the X27 which is a little bit longer but this one will do for now.  If you haven't ever seen these axe's before look them up on YouTube.  They only weigh 4 lbs and split like a 10 lb maul.  I'm impressed!

I was cutting on a huge oak tree this weekend that has been down for atleast 3 years.  My buddy was using his log splitter and I had my Fiskars axe.  I was splitting 1-1 1/2 ft diameter logs in one swing easily with no effort.  Man I love this thing!

I just watched some videos of the Fiskars Axe and I'm going to get me one of this. What an awesome product. I have one the Fiskars Pruning Shears and they work great!

I also seen the videos on YouTube and went to walmart the next day and bought the x27. The thing is a splitting beast and is very lightweight and comfortable. Great axe

I going to order the Super Splitting Axe this week. It's the same as the X27 only all black without the orange non slip grip. Got one in for somebody last week, and it felt really nice. Going to find out for myself if it really is worth the extra money over a standard 6lb maul.

Love my Fiskars. I have 2 the x25 and the x27. Bought the x25 first as it was all they had at my Walmart used it for about 6 months but felt it was a little to short. Found the x27 and now I just keep the little x25 on the four wheeler for those times I need  a splitter in the field.

I am not sure what the difference is in the Pro Splitter and the x25, but I feel that mine is too short too.  I would like to buy a x27 but I have a splitter now so I really don't have a need for one anymore.

A lot of the time it is less work to just split by hand than to get the wood to the splitter.

I had a Fiskars 27 for one winter, and I really tried to fall for it. Sold it to a guy at work for $10 less than I paid for it.
It did a great job splitting anything frozen or anything very, very dry, but it just didn't do what I expected it to do with the average wood that I bring home from the woods. I like a big, heavy splitting maul. I think my favorite one is 8 or 10 pounds.
It would usually take 3 or 4 blows with the 27 to do what I can do with 1 or 2 with the heavier maul.
I guess it's a torque vs horsepower thing. I'm 6'0", 235 lbs, and I like torque! >:D

I'll be the the first to admit Bill, you definitely work a LOT smarter than I do!

My stupid work habits are starting to take their tolls on my joints.

AND.... you can not be old. You are not even 6 years older than me! We are both kids yet. Yep, that's my story ;)

Thats why I finally built a inverted splitter for my skid steer.

My dads 67, has had both rotator cups repaired, a back surgery, a artificial hip that's bee replaced once already and a artificial knee put in a few years ago.

Dads never been afraid of hard work, but I decided I'd like to be in much better shape when I reach that age.

Also bought a grapple for the skid steer instead of risking the back or the jewels when loading big pieces into the pickup.

I'm only 26 but I try to work smarter not harder to try and prevent pain in the future.  I still split some pieces by hand but I use the splitter as much as possible.  My wife and I make a good team with the splitter.  She runs the lever and I load the wood.

Wow.  And here I thought I was the youngest on here with even a few year cushion. Turning 27 in less than two weeks. But the smarter not harder theory is a good one.

Work smarter, not harder is a good rule whenever possible.

Unfortunately 10 years of racing hare scrambles and enduro's has me headed well down the road of pain. Just figured no point of making it any worse.

I bought a x27 back in December, it has split 90% of the wood ive cut. The other 10% is still in a pile. Most of my pieces are 30" long, goes right through most pieces 1-3 hits many in a couple years I will get around to building a inertia splitter but at 23 I still fell pretty good swinging a maul.
