Title: chunks blowing out the chimney
Post by: MD20/20 on February 29, 2012, 10:51:48 AM
I'm seeing 1/8 to 1/4" pieces of what I imagine is dried creosote on my owb roof from time to time.  Is it just creosote blowing out when the boiler fires up?  Is it a problem?

Do you have more than one section of chimney? If so can you take off the top one to check it? i plan on checking my after each heating season to see the build up. Or run a chimney brush down it. It might not even be a problem though. Let the experts comment on this.

Pretty normal..  It's creosote burning off the inside of the stove and being carried out by the draft, when you burn coal you get a lot of little coal dust balls blowing out sometimes.  What your seeing is just dried up creosote, it burns and flakes off and gets blown out the stack
