Title: E-Classic Gas Ignition Kit
Post by: SperleFarms on February 29, 2012, 05:05:31 PM
Central Boiler is currently offering a free gas ignition kit with the purchase of an E-Classic furnace.  The installation of this kit, along with the line and tank are of course extra.  Just curious if anyone has experience with these, and if they’re worth the extra cost/hassle?   ???

if you ever had bridging  (because the burner   being mounted high in the firebox)     or burning not so dry of wood causing the fire to go out                   I heard also they are offering 100 ft of underground pex too with purchase of e classic

From what I've read, its loves to eat propane.  But, used sparingly it may be a good investment.  Roger

Ohh......     I wonder why portage and main and empyre don't have to send out propane kits to there customers?

Central Boiler doesn’t need to send gas ignition kits out to their customers, its part of a promotional sales event.  With any new technology there’s always a learning curve, and obviously people are still getting to know these new gasification furnaces.  My question for you is why you are commenting on Central Boiler furnaces if you’re so hopped up on Portage & Main / Empyre.  Seems like your just busting balls to me….

I'm new to this site, but have been posting and sharing the knowledge I've learned from operating my current Eclassic 2400 and previous CL5648 on another forum site for some time. This is my second winter seaon using it. Since my best friend is a CB dealer, I got the burner for his cost when I installed it. No it is not necessary to keep the furnace running, I can pulse "free" air in the firebox to do that. With a few setting adjustments, I ran it in July with just a DWH draw and it did not go out. The igniter is purely a convenience, for my first fire start of the season or if I've been gone for an extended weekend, it is great to just throw in some wood, press the button and go in the house. A 20 lb propane tank and regulator is all I need for what little I use it. If CB is giving them away as a promotion, new buyers will get a better deal on it than I did.  I see Scott7m is a dealer for other brands, too bad he has to make-up lies and  false accustations against competiors to try to sell his product. Why would Cental Boiler want to raise prices for the common man, possibly driving it our of our price range and be proud of it? That would be sales suicide.  Ridiculous, their Classic model was and still is a great model....sounds like a lot of sour grapes.

Hey guys,
While it is entertaining to read your posts, they really don't have much to do with the questions asked by SperleFarms.
There appears to be quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the OWB industry as a whole right now, and I believe that we all need to do our best to get along and burn efficiently and cleanly and not be a fuel source for for someones anti OWB agenda :(

So, do the gas ignition kits work well?

I use a propane "brush torch" to light mine when it's necessary. About 90 seconds and I'm lit for the year (Once again, please don't tell the good folks at P&M about my accelerated ignition process as I'm sure my warranty will be voided)!

Marty, to answer your question and Sperle's, the ignition burner works great when needed to start a new load, but other than that I don't need to use it. Like I said it is a convenience, especially to someone who would need to start a new load frequently for whatever reason. I find it dependable and a pretty cool design. As a $1,000 free incentive, I would certainly hook it up and enjoy when needed. I can also see how your brush burner idea would start a new load pretty well too.

So how does this forum work anyway? My previous replys were in defense of the brand I use to refute statements made by Scott7m as he was ripping Central Boiler. I don't see his statements between my replies now as they seemed to have disappeared. How does that work?

boilerman,
I'm sure Scott deleted his own posts. I'll bet that after he re-read them he was able to see that they were a little offensive to a few folks.
Most of the guys that have frequented this forum for a long while will say things from time to time that others will take offense to, and Scott is no exception to that rule. He did the right thing. You "newbies" will notice that he is opinionated, not unlike myself, but he is also man enough to understand that his posts weren't taken the way he wanted them to be taken, so he removed them. He also has enough character about him to always be there for all on this forum if you ever need his help, no matter what you may say or how you may feel about him. He and I were raised in communities where blunt honesty is the norm, and we don't get offended easily. The term "Politically Correct" is not considered a good thing in our areas(he's from Ky,I'm from Mi).
Disagreeing without being disagreeable is a pretty tough thing to accomplish. I'm sure I'll offend a few CB, Shaver, Hawken, Hardy,NC, etc. owners from time to time, but that will not be my intention, I will just be expressing my opinion, so I'll formally apologize in advance :bash:

If anyone ever feels the need to remove one of their own posts that may have came across the wrong way, there is an "X" in the upper right corner of your post that you can click. I've used it many times!
