Welcome to Aviston, Enjoy the Wood Boiler Smoke! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYrF4nGvyXo#)

Here is one, this guy is an anti owb nut.  He has a lot of videos he took of his neighbors hardy h4...

Most in my area smoke about the same, it's just kinda there nature

I think pol or someone on here posted a few pics of there's.  My cousin can make flames shoot 3-4 feet out his stack

That is just what the link says, I don't agree with anything he is trying to accomplish but it was the only video I could find

And freeze the whole next day? The only time they don't smoke like that is when there out.  It's really a different animal than many folks are used to running, you can't put enough in there to last all night and all day, but they smoke the entire time

Does it smoke that bad because the smoke stack is in the center of the roof? This must kill their efficiency. At least he has that many stacks with that many neighbors close by.

Yep no secondary burn at all....  Just straight out.

My Hardy H2 doesn't smoke like that unless it is right when I load it.  I have been burning some really dry wood that is split pretty small and it doesn't smoke much at all.  Actually, after about the 2nd or 3rd cycle I can barely see any smoke.  However, it will smoke pretty good at times (probably more than any other brand out there) and I wouldn't recommend a Hardy if you have close neighbors.  With that being said, I bought my stove used for a very good price after it had been involved in a fire and I rebuilt it.  They are very simple stoves and are not picky about what kind of wood you throw in there.  But, if I were to buy another stove in the future I don't think I would go with a Hardy.  Just my opinions, take them for what they are worth.  Here is a picture of my Hardy smoking.

I have a Hardy h2 and my brother in law also has one.  He lives about 1/4 mile from me. I am on the top of a hill, he is down in a valley.

My Hardy barely smokes at all, I will have smoke when the fan kicks on for a few minutes. and the rest of the time you can hardly see the smoke rising.    His looks like a old time coal fired locomotive.  It fills the whole valley with smoke.
We both cut the same kind of oak and hickory firewood. I don't know what the difference is.

Everyone asks why and we don't have a clue.

I have looked at five h4s one h2 and one h25 and I have never seen smoke like that I live on top of a hill and the wind almost always blows so hopefully it shouldn't be too bad

I seen all those videos on youtube about how they smoke so bad. But mine does not hardly smoke at all, I have the most smoke when the fan kicks on for the fist time after a loading and every other time the fan kicks on it does smoke a little but just for a few min. At idle you might see a little wisp of smoke every now and then. I use mostly good dry wood that is not spit or split very large but I will throw a green stick in every once and awhile (just because I cut a maple tree down right by the stove and instead of moving it I just grab a stick at a time and move it for the last time)

Yeah, I don't know what they are burning in the videos on YouTube but mine doesn't ever smoke like that.  Like bigdiesel said, they smoke the most right after you load it and also right when the fan first kicks on.  If you are on top of a hill then I wouldn't worry about it.  How far away are your closest neighbors?

i live on a dead end township road the very last house  my neighbors live across the road,  the one neighbor is probably about 400 to 600 feet north east of me and the other is more like 300 feet straight east of me i am going to put the hardy on the north side instead of the south so you wont be able to see it soon as you pull in. on the south side it was going to be more or less in my driveway and i didnt want anyone to hit it if the driveway got bad. My house chimney is on the north side and the smoke never really bother anyone and i had to burn some green wood. the wind always seems to blow and its not always the same i hope they dont get mad alot of them burn wood so the shouldnt mind

You should be fine then.  Maybe just look into a taller chimney if it becomes a problem.  If they already burn wood then I wouldn't see why they would mind the smell of smoke.

Careful there, I burn wood but I would not be happy if I had a neighbor that was sending smoke into my house. I would think a taller chimney would be a wise investment.

i talked to the guy that is the closest and told him what i am doing and he said that smoke was no big deal and that he is thinking about putting and owb in he said to let him know what i think about mine, but the dealer came today and is installing it and putting a taller stack on it isnt very much more so i might do that

You might not even need to worry with a longer pipe. If you have lived there any amount of time you should know witch way the breeze is going most of the time. Like at my house I knew that 99% of the time I have a breeze from either s, sw, or nw and none of those ways will it take the smoke to any of my close neighbors. But extending the pipe is cheap compaired to a complaining neighbor, because if they get pissed about it they could really make it bad for you.

I know that the wind usually blows out of the south south west which wont bother any neighbor and that's why I ended up putting it on that side but once in a while it blows at random that's why I was concerned but they don't seem to be bother by it cause the one neighbor that it would effect the most said not to worry about it
