I have only had my h4 for three weeks and I have had it shoot flames out the stack when first lit that's the only time I notice flames other than that very little smoke other than when first loaded. Just wondering if its no big deal as I don't want to catch my wood pile on fire.
-
Its a Hardy, thats what they do.
-
I get flames out of mine all the time. Usually only when I have the wood stacked really high in the fire box. Hasn't casued any problems yet.
-
mine too, looks like torch burning at night sometimes, hadn't caused any problems.
-
That would scare the living daylights out of me.
-
Mine does it here and there..Looks like a butane lighter flame
-
Handy if you like big cigars.
-
This is what mine looks like.
-
Ok thanks I was just wondering if that was normal it done it when I had it filled
-
Holy crap boys. That'll keep the creosote to a minimum.
-
Hmm.... Wonder where that heats going?
That's the bad part IMO.
-
Bigtime wasted btus right there. :bash:
-
Has anyone installed a spark arrestor on top of their stack?
-
I aam going to here soon just as soon as I figure out how tall I want my chimney
-
Walker,
I would lengthen your chimney first and see how it goes. You may find that the flame either
stops or isn't enough to worry about.

I have the H5 and have used it for about 3 weeks. I have not seen anything like the picture posted and I hope I never do... I have only on 1 occasion seen a spark fly out the top. So far I love the Hardy stove. Can wait for -20 this winter and see how the Hardy responds.
