Title: SKID STEER SPLITTER
Post by: wrudoing on August 21, 2012, 06:39:46 PM
Has or does anyone have a skid steer splitter?  The good and the bad???  New evolution in skid spliting tech (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=0Cie1FW3pu4#)

That thing is to time consuming. I can do it faster with cutting the wood on the ground and using my own wood splitter.

Did he build it or buy it? is he running a single wedge or a four way? is it a 30 or 36" throat? does the skid steer have enough push for the tough stuff?

Thanks

He converted a 3 pt one to mount on the skid steer. I think it is about 30" throat. It just has a single wedge. It will go through wood sideways without any trouble.

When I first replied I was using my phone and the video didn't show up on it.
That looks like a nice splitter.

I am borrowing one of these next week to bust up the big stuff. Looks sweet but I wouldn't want to own one. They are about $4k

I use a Multitek 6" bore and 30" stroke 30" wedge with a four way attachment that I took off. I can split logs lengthways too as long the log is not more than 30" diameter. I will add a picture later when I get one.

Pictures of mind. The log measures 44"dia and will handle any size as long it is not cut more than 30" in length.

There is no one around here thats sells them so i ended up buying one online used it for three hours and had it all bent up, way to light the company i bought it from stood behind it, ended up sending it back and they gave me a full refund. One of my buddies told me about a local fab shop that has built a few so i looked at theres it was the first one they built 10 years ago looked like it was rode hard and put away wet, but wasn't bent up or tweeked told me to take it home and try it out WOW!! He is in the process of building me a custom splitter we did a different design with everything that i want in a splitter. I'll  post pics when i get it home!!   Be carefull buying the online stuff you can't look at it,  alot of it is way underbuilt i was fortunate he stood behind this one.
