Just finishing up my install (reinstall) and I see the manufaturer calls for a ground rod. I had one on one of my other boilers, an early Empyre that began corroding around the door about year four. There was a problem with bad metal and evidence of "cold starts" in the welding too. But an electrician came over and detected poor bonding between the door and the boiler itself. Creosote on the hinges can be a bit of an insulator so we put a bonding cable there and grounded the boiler. That model had the solenoid damper. I don't want any errant electrical current near my boiler so I will make sure it all checks out. Just wondering if anyone else has a concern.

I have a seperate ground rod attached to my boiler. It is suppose to protect the boiler from electryolsis.

My dealer recommended I install one, not sure for what reason.
