I have a 10 plate heat exchanger for use on my water heater. Is it possible for the exchanger to plug up or cause enough restriction to keep the heat coil on my furnace, ( whih is the next thing the water passes ) to not be able to reach temp ??? I am only getting about 90 degree air out of the redgester. The other Heat exchanger / Furnace for my addition which is teed into the water line with ball valves to adjust the flow from the boiler. it is First in the line, It is nice and warm out there.
and I get almost a 40 degree temp drop accross the coil i think isnt getting enough water ?? it just acts like to me there isn't enought water passing through that one coil ?

OH and I have shut the ball valves compleatly off the the exchanger in the addition...that makes no differance to the air temperature in the original house furnace ?

My son had a plate heat exchanger plug in 2 years. It was filled with scale and did not allow water to pass through. He replaced with a pipe within a pipe exchanger and that works fine. It is like a 1 inch pipe inside a 3 inch pipe that circulates to his hot water storage tank.

Can definitely happen. My buddies plugged up. He took it out of the loop and ran some CLR (or something like CLR, can't remember now) through it, then flushed it many times with water. Has been working fine ever since.... about two years now.

10 plates flow way to poorly, I'd suggest using a 20, it helps keep the flow up greatly improving your delta t in the loop and making it perform better.

Yes !! I took it apart and was plugedabout half. I just by-passed it ! took it out of the loop. Air temp is about 15 degrees warmer now. ( about 115 degrees) Am happy..... Still getting about 40 degrees Differance between the supply side of the coil to the return ?? Is this ok ???

No that's not good.... Delta t across the coil should be no more than 20. What size pump are you running? What size pex? How far of a run? How far up hill? Lots of variables. Size of hx? Lt me know that stuff
