Title: Flat Plate Heat Exchanger Install Questions
Post by: Roger2561 on April 15, 2013, 05:52:59 AM
Hi all, listening to what people on this forum have said, I'll be installing a flat plate heat exchanger between the OWB and oil furnace to separate the 2 systems.  I think I understand how to plumb it in place but I need to sure.   I have all of the valves and drains that I believe are needed.  Below is how I believe it needs to be plumbed in place.  Please correct me if/where I'm wrong.

1)  Water from OWB goes in the upper port
2)  Water return to OWB goes in the low port on the side as the water coming in from OWB
3)  Water to heat emitters - upper port but opposite side of water from OWB
4)  Water Return from heat emitters - lower port opposite side of water return to OWB.

Thanks everyone!  Roger

No, Ports share opposite ends, not same ends.  Like if you were looking at a plate exchanger that's 5x12, it's ports that are 10" apart on the same side, not the ones 2" apart

How bout this;  Heat Exchanger is standing up 12" tall.  To help clarify what I'm asking... Water from OWB goes to upper right hand port - return water to OWB is lower right port?  Water to baseboard emitters is upper left hand port and water from baseboard emitters to lower left hand port?  Essentially I'm cutting the heat exchanger down the middle with the right side ports being the OWB side and left side being baseboard side.

Thanks for your input guys.  When I shut down the OWB for the summer I'll plumb it in.  Roger
