I'm going sunday to look at a p&m ml series I think its a ml30 model 3years old for $1200. This guy that has it bought it from someone with 3 penny sized holes in the firebox, he then took it to a welding shop and had the firebox needle scaled, patched ,and pressure tested.
Any thoughts?????
-
There is some reason he's not keeping it, and def a reason why it's only $1200
Hmm... Be careful is all one can really say
-
Talking to him on the phone he doesn't even know what model stove it is. He tried to get a hold of the welding shop yesterday to tell them to stop because I wanted to buy it not fixed. He said if they hadn't started the work he would sell it for $600. But this evening when the shop returned the call it was all repaired. When I asked him why he was selling it he told me he decided he didn't want to deal with cutting wood. He has never had it hooked up to anything. Only the previous owner his neibor had. I'm trying not to think that he would be trying to screw me but you never know anymore. I'm just not shue what to think until I see it.
-
He bought it knowing about the holes with the intentions of fixing it and using it for his own house.

Check with your local code enforcement officer, this is not an EPA approved stove. you will not want to get it installed and then be forced to remove it.
-
I live in central Michigan. I didn't think in Michigan you needed an epa approved stove. If you do their are a lot of people in trouble around here
-
OK, enjoy, if you need any help let us know.

I am not going to say anymore or the P&M guy will say I am bashing his product again...

Sounds like your buddy is having a problem that HE should be addressing, we have spoken with him and made an offer to help. Your insinuations of us not holding up to our end of the problem do not help his case, you will find over time that you will get far more respect from everyone by not butting in and trying to cause a problem when there is none. There is a reason your buddy does not have one of your units, I wonder?

Richard,
I am not here to bash you.....or your product I am just mentioning were to check. don't get so bent out of shape.... I know you tried calling him at work, but he was busy, I thank you for that. I know he talked to the guy from Canada again......my neighbor will be ordering the new one that's epa approved, he will be paying the shipping also.........If he knew about the kind I bought, back when he ordered his he may have idk.....but I am not here to make decisions for him. I am all done on this site you will not see me back on....probly what you want anyway..lol . It was nice to help the people out that I have helped and the friends I made on here, but being called a lier and I have no respect.....keep running down people like me on here like you do you will be looking for a new line of work...... good luck in the future :)
PS
I have no respect after you said i will call your neighbor i took down all that i said about the boiler... I told you also that i did.....but you did not delete any of the post bashing me and calling me a lier.....? hmmmmmm. I think we now all know the truth on the respect part.....along with your true colors
dismissed
ps sorry crjr for wrecking your post.....

Re-read your post, would you appreciate someone sticking a stick into a bee hive while you are trying to get the honey out of it, your buddy has been offered a deal and accepted, This is not the first time that I have felt as if you are trying to stir something up that may have an agenda, I will not say anything bad about you or your product but when I feel that I'm being attacked in any way I certainly will defend myself and the company that I represent. We are all here to promote wood burning and there are lots of potential customers here, if we all work together we may be able convince more people to look at the benefits of burning wood and getting off oil. By the way, Crude oil this morning opened at 107 dollars per barrel, up from 86 dollars 6 weeks ago, do you think that just maybe that will open more peoples eyes to our products and services.
-
Here is an idea shut up and stop makeing you and your company that you represent look bad. I don't know if you have never herd this before but "opinions are like a**holes everyone has one". This post is titled used portage and main stove not warranty issues with the company

WTH was this all about? I had to reread all that crap 3 times before I could figure out 2 dealers were having a pissing contest with each other.
Here's an idea for all the various dealers on this board too: you should state you are a dealer in your profile that appears next to your posts. It would give everyone an idea of how you have information that the average person would not have. Might give you a bit of credibility as well.
ANYWAY... what did you end up doing CRJR? You going to go look at it or have you just said 'the heck with it'?
I looked at the P&M units. I think they make a GREAT one, lots of attention to detail. I just don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the only Michigan rep, and they ARE a bit pricey. Probably worth it tho... you get what you pay for!
As far as the holes that needed to be repaired, I can't believe it's a design problem. They've been in business a long time and you don't stay in business long with a flawed design. Maybe the previous owner never treated his water, or had really bad water, or both. Or, POSSIBLY, P&M got a less than desirable batch of steel. Not intentionally mind you, but it DOES happen from time to time. I just got a batch of 1" square tubing where the weld seam wasn't welded. I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't have to bend it, then the seam opened up.
Lots of possibilities and I'm curious as to what you found out.

Sorry guys for airing dirty laundry, we seem to have a bit of an issue between dealers, I don't pretend not to be a rep for the company as all my posts say trouble shooting rep for Portage and Main directly under the posts, If you choose to purchase the used unit please put plenty of load on it as it must work and not idle a lot otherwise it's exhaust temps are low enough to cause condensation in the last pass of the heat exchanger. Thanks again for the good words about our products, if you have any further questions please don't be afraid to ask, I will try to help

Who was the other dealer!?!? I don't get it
The only two dealers even posting were me and slimjim and we sure weren't arguing
-
Old news Scott, indoor guy that has a buddy with one of our boilers that is leaking, company is taking care of the guy but the indoor guy keeps poking a stick in the hornets nest.
-
I didn't realize the indoor boiler guy was a dealer tho, I thought he was just a customer
Yea I heard about that particular stove and talked to someone n Louisville about it. ,

YES THEY DO! And if I'd have opened my eyes I *just* might have seen that! :bash:
Sorry 'bout that. I'm used to v-bulletin software and my own board. When I look at something even the slightest bit different, it's like I'm looking at a foreign language. Mental block I guess.

Well SEE? If you stated you were a dealer... nevermind, we just went thru that! ;D

No problem, we really should not be peeing on each others parade anyway, the main thing that we should all be promoting is wood burning and let the individual decide whats in thier best interest as far as the products go, it's like coolidge said on one of the threads, something like 80% of Mainers heat with oil, what happens when all the oil is used for food and transportation

Jim,
I agree people need to look into the idea of wood burning.....weather forced hot air, boiler or hot water stoves.....fuel oil cost a lot of $$$$$ to heat now and people can feel the cost now a days.....paying hundreds of dollars each month for fuel....I was just telling the guy where to look that's all was not trying to bring up my neighbors problems just telling where they have had issues sorry if I bashed you...

scott, Im not, so I don't know why he thinks I am....idk, never said I was either.... I don't know where that came from?
-
OK no apoligies needed, lets just get back to promoting wood burning indoor, outdoor I really don't care, lets just get the heck off oil as a heat source. Crude oil 6 weeks ago was $86 per barrell, when I left home monday it was I think $108, does that tell anybody out there something, Scott get ready for a busy year in sales, stock up on parts and pipe.
