Title: In floor radiant heat
Post by: johnybcold on September 03, 2013, 11:45:00 AM
Well here is a project I have been talking about and working on (I took down the insulation last year) but I am gonna get it done, I want to put taint heat under my kitchen floor which is tile, I would like to use some kind of tempature regulating cable anyone using one for this already? The valves I found online seem to have a large diameter, I thought I would use a smaller pec so I would not have to drill big holes in my joist.

Not sure what you mean by temperature regulating coil.
You should be able to use 3/8" pex.

If you now have open bays, you should check out a product called Ultra Fin. simply drill your floor joists, run the pex, clip on the plates and connect to the manifold. No need for mixing valves as the plates do not touch the wood and they use the air trapped in the bay to evenly heat the entire bay. No floor warping or cracking the tiles. You should be able to get them at any supply house.

I have used it on several jobs, My customers rave about it and I like the easy install with no stupid mixing valve that sooner or later always fails.

If you ask your supplier they will lay out your install for you and it will perform very well, good luck and keep us informed.
