Title: Pump Selection
Post by: uncle on September 25, 2013, 08:26:56 PM
Reading the previous post, I hope I got the right pump???

I have a run one way of 220' and a 30 plate heat exchanger.

What pump would you suggest?

I have a Grundos UPS15-58FC.

I was assuming he had 1" pex....  Maybe he'll be back

I have a second pump for my second loop, a Bell and Crossett NPF22.

That loop it 55' of 1" with only a water to air exchanger.

What do you think of this one?

That one should be fine.
For the 220' run you could add another 15-58 in series or get something like a 26-99 or b&g pl36.

I might keep the 15-58 for a spare/emergency pump and get the pump you quoted.
Thanks,
Brian

I didn't mean to bring this back up but I need a little help.
My run to the house is 220ft one way of 1" pex. I have a 20x20 water to air hooked up. From the pump through the whole loop, there are 2 shark bite 90's total. I want to plumb in a 30 plate water to water and this will take a few more fittings.
What would be an estimate of my head and would the 26-99 still be a good pump?

I am using the 15-58 just to get heat moving but I want to do what I can to make it right.

Thanks,
Brian

Grundfos 26-96 would be better..  I often say 26-99 but mean 26-96.

What is the reason to use a 26-96 instead of a 26-99? That may be a little small for 220' each way? You can always use medium on the 26-99 it is a little big and it doesn't cost that much more..

Yea..  Your right, I was looking at the curves wrong

What is the heat load like, I normally try to size circs with that in mind, is the 1 inch pex inside diameter or is it nominally sized, a good rule of thumb is 1 gallon of water per minute = 10,000 btu extracted at the heat exchanger, 10 gallons per minute = 100,000 btu output, on a long run like this, sometimes it helps to double up the circs, one on each end of the line.

It's just standard 1' PEX, the sharkbites work perfect.

Can we visit pump speed that you mentioned? How would I know if I needed to slow the pump or speed up the pump?

I've got the small pump on it now just to get heat moving but I have not connected the 30 plate yet.

Speed up the pump or flow rate if the differential is over 20 degrees and slow it down if under a load you are less than 10 on the differential
