I just bought a Pacific Western Model 1 that has some fire damage. I've rebuilt the front end and am now looking to wire it. Two questions; First, where can I find a wiring diagram being they are no longer made; how do i incorporate a high temp safety switch as well as where do I find one?

Have you filled it to check for leaks n such yet?

You need a snap disc. They come in different open/reset temperatures an they are wired inbetween the aquastat and the damper/fan so if the temperature goes above their high temp it goes open to kill power to the damper/fan when it drop to the low temp it resets. 190/150 can be had on ebay for under $8 shipped.

It has a minor leak on the bottom of the water jacket at the front. A few other spots were patched as well. I bought the unit for $700 so if I can limp it through a couple of winters, I will save enough to buy a decent unit. All my money got wraped up in a LONG run of insulated PEX!

Yep, just gotta hope the EPA ruling don't take affect before then...
Those models were bad about cracking is why I had asked

How does a snap disc sense temperature, and how/where do you place it for proper operation?
I know an aquastat has a probe that is inserted in a well to sense the temp but don't understand how the snap disc does it's thing.

It simply would attatch to the water tank up high and sense the temp of the jacket, when it reaches its setpoint the contacts break, use the two terminals to interupt the blower and solenoid.

After looking at pics of a couple that makes sense. Thanks for the info Slim, much appreciated.
