Title: heat exchanger question
Post by: doow14 on November 04, 2013, 10:50:12 AM
noticed something today when I was changing the furnace filter.there is about 2" on each end of the heat exchanger that is wide open seems like that would let a lot of air bypass the coils. is that something worth trying to remedy or is it not a big deal?thanks for any input D

It could work better by placing some sheet metal under the edges to direct all air through the coil, I try to size them as close as possible but sometimes still have a little gap, never has cause me a problem tho

If it is heating fine then I would just leave it alone. If you would like to get hotter air out the vents you could try plugging it to see if it helps much. You may need to replace it with a closer fit though if you need more heat output.
