Title: hot water timer
Post by: coolidge on November 11, 2013, 05:57:22 PM
I haven't really looked around yet, but does anyone know if you can get a timer to install on the hot side of a shower? The kids are taking some really LONG showers. I would like to put a timer on so when the time is up they will know it :P :P.   BRRRR brings chills to my spine already.

Lol.

I don't know if they make anything like that but you could piece something together. Would it need to be an auto reset or manual?
You would probably want to use a 3 way valve so you don't screwup the mixing valve in the shower valve from loss of pressure on the hot side.

I love the idea.

I don't think you need anything as fancy as a timer (It would be my luck that I'd completely forget about the timer or it would malfunction and I'd be the one taking a cold shower   :bash:).  When you feel that the shower is taking too long, simply shutoff the hot-water valve.  When the yelling that there is no hot-water and you hear the water stop running, wait a couple of minutes and then turn it back on.

Yea and it would be much more fun that way as well.

Then it would be a couple trips down to the basement every morning, not that I wouldn't enjoy it >:D.
And of course my kids wouldn't learn either. How about a zone valve with my own thermostat? ;D

Oh heck,  play with their minds a little.  When you feel the water use is excessive, turn off the hot water.  After they are done complaining about the lack of hot water, you turn the water back on.  Then you take your shower.  Of course there's plenty of water for you...I wonder what the problem could be...?   ::)

You control the tokens, they could be used as rewards for longer showers LOL.

With the cost of that you will need to make them use real money to pay it off.  ;D

I ran across this a year or so ago. http://www.showermanager.com/conservation-store/shower-timer-home.shtml (http://www.showermanager.com/conservation-store/shower-timer-home.shtml)  Thought about it for a long time but didn't do it.
