Hi- new to here- thanks everyone ----I have a Woodmaster 4400- I am going to run a second line to heat the nearby garage--can I do this with the OWF in operation? do I need a second circulating pump? my guess is no, but just want to be sure before ordering the Dragon Breath unit--

We'll the question is do you plan to run the house and garage in series or parallel? If you run them in series than your pump on the boiler is all that's needed but you should make sure that your returning temps back to the boiler aren't to low. I assume that you won't be heating the garage all of the time? If not you wit really need to worry about temp drops since it will only be occaisionally that you have some lower temp returns. Next question is how long of a run will it be of pex? That will determine the head on the pump and you can make sure the pump can still pump that much distance.

I ran a line to my garage. I ran a separate pump for two reasons. #1 - If the pump to my house went out, I could switch it out with the one to the garage - kind of like having a spare. #2 - I didn't want to interfere with the one going to the house as I already had it sized and just wanted to keep them separate. And yes, you can do it while using the furnace if you have cutoffs on your furnace. If you have plugs you may need to drain it.

welcome to the site,
I would run 2 pumps for 2 reasons....one if your one pump goes now you are not circulating any water from boiler....and you will not be getting any heat out of it.2 is that the 2 pex lines may be to long for just one pump and wont flow enough and water return will be way below the hot side going out.... you can hook everything up like mentioned if you already have ball valves already installed on boiler lines that are not being used now.....if not you will have to shut it down and drain to screw the return in the bottom of the water tank.....
