Jeez, looks like a deep freeze for the Midwest, -30 to -40. You guys and gals get ready and keep the wood fires burning. Hope that doesn't come this way.

Up here in Northern MN they are talking -20 for this weekend... Looks like all of next week will be darn cold...
-
Guess that mean I have to REALLY fire up the boiler now.

I live in NW/N.C., keep those temps over your way.
I've been able to fire my stove (1) time per day and keep temps above 170.

Feteddaddy, never seen a hicks water stove. How do you like yours?

I love it, the owner is my neighbor and long time family friend.
They are designed a lot different than an OWB though, made to go inside an insulated building.
The type I have is conventional but has (6) 4" tubes just like the second picture in the link below.

They are like a batch burn style stove. I have a timer on mine and let it burn for 8hrs
which normally keeps the stove at 180 then shuts the fan off after 8hrs.
I load it once a day and normally have 170-160 temps when I get home.
I like the design but it's a conventional so the efficency isn't as high as the gassers.
Hicks Waterstove has been around a long time 30+ years and I seen their stoves last
20-30yrs as long as they are maintained.
