Title: finshed my build
Post by: new builder on December 05, 2013, 09:10:03 PM
I've been burning for two months now. Finally had some good weather last weekend. I was able to .finish the siding.  I could not be more happy with the outcome. I'm in love with my boiler..lol

Awesome! Since you have been burning for two months now you probably have a good idea of what you would do different if you did it all over again. What would you change, what do you like?

I love the money its saving me !! when I build the next one I will put a grate in the bottom of the firebox. this one doesn't have one and its kinda a pain to get the ashes out.  its not to bad though I can deal with that.

Do you have that much ashes? I've been burning for almost 2 months now and have never cleaned mine out and there doesn't seem to be that much in there. I even started out by dumping 5 gallons of ashes in it from my indoor wood stove just to have something in the bottom. I'm assuming I must be either loosing lots of the chimney pipe, even though that doesn't appear so or someone is stealing it at night. I'm burning everything from 2x4 spruce lumber, to hydro poles (not treated), spruce logs, ash, cherry, maple, walnut, poplar, cardboard and other wood.

I did not make a grate either. I just shovel out the edges of the firebox once a week. I might get a wheelbarrow full every two months. Great looking boiler!

I don't get very much ash at all. In two months maybe a wheel barrel load. Thanks for alll the complements. They make me. Feel good....lol

I have grates in mine and I thought of taking them out because it is hard to build up a good bed of hot coals.  In the end I elected to keep them because there are a lot of things I like about the boiler.  I was worried the "Law of Unintended Consequences" would kick in.  Sometimes we are better letting sleeping dogs lie.
