Title: Optimizer 250 issues
Post by: AJB on January 18, 2014, 10:10:50 PM
Well new here but here goes.... Been running optimizer 250 for 2 winters and still not sure how i like it.  Fussy thing... high maintenance..... Anyhow have been burning dry standing poplar and other than lots ash was so so.  Bought some birch thinking it should run SOOOOO much better.... well looks like mistake.  Cant seem to get it to gasify properly.  Wood tests 20-25% mc.  Air set 5 turns top and 3 bottom. Air disc bout 1/4" open.  Have tried more open with no better luck.  Combustion chamber clean... under verticle tubes too.  Less than 1" ash in burn chamber.  Horizontal tubed clean.  Since burning birch they are becoming wet with creosote :bash: Any advise to make this thing run right would be greatly appreciated  Thanx

The tubes should never have creosote in them, we need to talk, not that I don't want to post but a conversation over the phone will be faster. Birch is not a bad wood but does create a lot of smoke in a conventional, should not be a problem at all in the 250. I will PM you my contact info, lets figure out what is going on.
