Title: I need to gain a few hours on my burn times - add a tank in my basement?
Post by: AirForcePOL on January 22, 2014, 09:02:55 AM
I added my garage to my system about 3 weeks ago.  The boiler heats the garage with no problems but my burn times have gone downhill big time.  I used to get 12-14 hours easily but I have only been getting about 9-10 lately with the garage added on.  I was wondering if I added a storage tank in my basement with a couple hundred gallons if it would maybe allow be to get a few more hours out of a load?  My system is by no means efficient.  I made my own cheap lines and the house is very drafty.  I built the garage about 4 years ago and it is insulated well.  I'm just looking for any ideas on how to get a couple more hours out of a full load so that I don't have to worry about getting the stove going again in the morning.  Thanks!

You will be able to recover more heat due to your stove burning longer cycles (if you load correctly-batch burn).
I don't think it would be enough to make much change though (my belief).

Unless your putting in more Wood I doubt its going to benefit you to much..  Storage has to be to be insulated too..  long burns will be more efficient but not that much difference ur needing

I was wondering how you were going to heat that much on an H2.  What is your total square footage now?

Haha...  the h2 struggles for some efficiency as we all know, just dont know how much in terms of minutes or hours it would help you to do a batch burn

You won't use any less wood by adding water but you might be able to get it set up where you can burn more wood during the day to heat your storage tank up and then use it at night.
